On November 22, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the air defense system shot down five Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Belgorod and Kursk provinces.
The statement reads: "On November 22, between 20:00 and 21:00 Moscow time, an attempt by the Kiev authorities to carry out an attack using UAVs against facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation was prevented. The defense system destroyed five Ukrainian UAVs: four in Belgorod and one in Kursk."
Earlier in the day, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on his Telegram channel that the Ukrainian Armed Forces used UAVs to attack the village of Otradnoe near Belgorod, causing one house to burn down completely, the windows of another house to break and the facade to be damaged.
According to preliminary data, there were no casualties as a result of the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the village of Otradnoe.
In another development, on the same day, November 22, in an interview on Al Arabiya TV channel, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that Moscow is not crazy and does not want to use nuclear weapons.
According to Mr. Medvedev, the use of nuclear weapons is "an extreme option". The TV channel quoted this official: "We really do not want this to happen".
At the same time, Mr. Medvedev stressed that in the new nuclear doctrine of the Russian Federation, the threshold for using such weapons has been lowered, taking into account the risks involved.
According to him, the countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are fully involved in the Ukrainian conflict, and this conflict can only end if the North Atlantic alliance stops fanning the flames of war.
