Wissa cost Newcastle £55m. |
The Athletic confirmed that the £55m fee will be paid by Newcastle in instalments, with part paid immediately and the rest paid next year. Brenfrod also included a 25% profit-sharing clause in the contract if the Magpies sell Wissa in the future.
The deal comes just after Newcastle and Liverpool completed the transfer of Alexander Isak. The Swede will join Liverpool for a fee of £130 million, making him the most expensive signing in Premier League history.
Last season, Wissa scored 19 goals in the Premier League, his best performance since joining Brentford from Lorient in 2021. The striker is considered an ideal addition to coach Eddie Howe's squad with his ability to play flexibly in attack.
Experts say that with the successful recruitment of Woltemade and Wissa, the Tyneside team has significantly strengthened their attack and is ready for a challenging season ahead.
The fees for Woltemade and Wissa are relatively high, but they are the result of an increasingly inflated transfer market. Not to mention Newcastle have no choice but to strengthen their squad after parting ways with Isak in the final days of the summer transfer window.
