Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer publicly criticised Gigio Donnarumma after the collision that left Jamal Musiala seriously injured.

According to Bild, the German star is expected to be out of action for 4-5 months, thereby missing the early stages of the 2025/26 season.

“It was a really difficult moment. Of course, in situations like this there is always a certain risk,” Neuer said.

“However, as a goalkeeper, I don't think you have to go in that way. It's too risky,” Neuer criticized.

The 39-year-old goalkeeper continued about Musiala : “He takes the risk of an injury – even to his own team-mates – although usually nothing happens. We hope the injury is not too serious, but in my opinion it could be quite serious.”

Neuer spoke directly to Donnarumma about the issue: “During the break, I approached him and asked: 'Don't you want to come and see how our players are doing?'.

Jamal was badly injured, and I thought I should at least go there to pay my respects and wish him well. Then Gigio did that.”

Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid goalkeeper, also spoke about the incident but in a different way.

“It’s a bit too much to blame Donnarumma for Musiala’s injury. The goalkeepers always come out to fight for the ball. The strikers don’t hold back when they tackle us.

It was just bad luck. Maybe Neuer was heartbroken because it was his teammate, but Donnarumma cannot be blamed."
