According to the ministry, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin met with his US counterparts Antony Blinken and Yoko Kamikawa (Japan) in New York on September 22 to discuss the Russia-North Korea arms deal.

The foreign ministers expressed deep concern about military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, warning that a potential arms deal between Pyongyang and Moscow would violate UN Security Council resolutions, which Russia itself voted for.

The parties vowed to cooperate with the global community to strictly handle any threats to regional security that violate Security Council resolutions.

Earlier this month, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin amid growing concerns about a potential arms deal between the two countries.

Media reports said Kim Jong Un wants Russia to cooperate on military technology to build spy satellites and other weapons, while Putin wants more ammunition from North Korea for use in Ukraine.

Previously, amid doubts from officials and international media, the Kremlin said on September 15 that Moscow had no plans to sign any agreements with Pyongyang.

According to Reuters news agency, the Kremlin emphasized that Russia and North Korea did not sign any agreements on military or other fields during North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's visit to Russia in recent days.
