Hot weather is also a time when people need to consume more water and feel hungrier. Experts say that if the body is well-hydrated and has enough energy, it can overcome the common effects of heat.

Here are some notes on eating and drinking on hot days, according to The Washington Post.

In hot weather, experts advise people to eat foods that provide water and are easy to digest, such as watermelon.

Don't eat many large meals.

Leigh A. Frame, director of integrative medicine at George Washington University (USA), said that the digestive process creates heat. In addition, consuming a large amount of nutritious food in one meal can make it difficult for the body to digest.

“If you're having trouble digesting food, your body is actually generating more heat,” says Frame.

Experts advise people to divide their meals into small meals throughout the day and eat foods that provide water and are easier to digest, such as cucumbers and watermelon.

Avoid consuming too much caffeine and cold drinks

Drinks with high amounts of caffeine, such as energy drinks, can dehydrate you because they make you urinate more.

Meanwhile, consuming a lot of cold food or drinks throughout the day can cause your body temperature to drop. Your body may then respond by trying to warm itself back up. This can drain your energy and make you feel hotter in the long run, Frame says.

Eat fruits and vegetables

Unlike processed foods, which are low in water content and difficult to digest, many fruits and vegetables are full of water and nutrients.

Experts recommend eating foods with high water content such as berries, watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, and bell peppers. These foods can be eaten without cooking, helping you reduce the amount of heat generated in your home.

Drink enough water

Experts say water and low-sugar, caffeine-free drinks are ideal on hot days. However, you should not drink too much water because it can cause your body's sodium levels to drop.
