On March 1, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online, a leader of the People's Committee of Giao Huong commune (Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province) said that the act of saving a drowning person by Mr. Nguyen Van Hao (34 years old, residing in Thanh Ninh hamlet, Giao Huong commune, Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province) at noon on February 28 spread throughout social networks and was praised by many people.
Previously, at around 11:20 a.m. on February 28, on the way home from a militia training session, when reaching a section near Diem Cong Con Ba on the Huu Hong dike (in Hong Thuan commune, Giao Thuy district), Mr. Nguyen Van Hao, deputy head of the grassroots security and order protection team and militia of Thanh Ninh hamlet (Giao Huong commune), discovered a woman struggling in the middle of the Red River.
Mr. Hao shared that it was noon, there were few people, on the way back from militia training, when he reached the section near Diem Cong Con Ba, he heard a weak cry for help from the middle of the Red River.
As a retired navy soldier, trained in swimming and handling situations underwater, he was not afraid of danger, immediately stopped the car, jumped into the river, swam out to the middle of the water, and approached the victim.
After struggling for a while in the strong current, Mr. Hao brought the woman safely to shore.
"When I brought the victim to shore, I saw that she was exhausted and shivering from the cold. I took off my militia shirt to put on her to keep her warm, and immediately contacted the Hong Thuan Commune Police to verify her identity and find her family," said Mr. Hao.
Through verification, the woman who unfortunately slipped and fell into the river and was swept away by the water was Ms. PTC (65 years old, residing in Hamlet 6, Hong Thuan Commune, Giao Thuy District).
Hong Thuan commune police and Mr. Hao contacted her relatives to bring Ms. C. home safely.
The leader of Hong Thuan Commune Police said that Mr. Hao's brave action deserves to be commended. The commune police have reported to the local authorities and proposed to commend and reward him.
