Recently, in the 6th grade entrance exam of Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary and High School, Nguyen Chi Dung, a student of La Khe Primary School (Ha Dong, Hanoi ) scored 30.2 points, of which he scored 10 points in Math and became the school's valedictorian. In addition, Dung also led in the entrance exam of the Gifted Secondary School of the University of Education with 84 points.

Not only did Chi Dung become valedictorian at these two schools, he also passed the entrance exams to a series of other "hot" schools such as Foreign Language Secondary School, Cau Giay Secondary School, Ngoi Sao Hoang Mai Secondary School, and Ngoi Sao Hanoi Secondary School, in which he won a full scholarship at Ngoi Sao Hoang Mai Secondary School and a 50% scholarship at Ngoi Sao Hanoi Secondary School.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy, Dung's mother, said, "I was very surprised. I didn't think my son would achieve such high results."

Ms. Thuy said that from kindergarten to primary school, Dung attended public schools near his home. Not only Dung, but both of his siblings also attended schools that met the criteria of "studying whichever school is closest to home".

Therefore, for many years, Ms. Thuy's children "only need to walk 200m to get to school". In her opinion, the best school is the one that is suitable, does not put pressure on the child, and is not too far away to ensure health.

“When my child was young, studying near home also created favorable conditions for him to rest and receive the best care from his mother,” said Ms. Thuy.

When Dung entered first grade, hearing that his teacher said he was a “very good student”, Ms. Thuy was happy but still wanted to let him develop naturally. During the first 4 years of primary school, Dung did not participate in any competitions. It was only when he entered 5th grade, when encouraged by his teacher and mother, that Dung registered to participate in some regional and international competitions. In addition, the boy also took the TOEFL Primary and achieved a perfect score of 230/230.

Seeing that her son had potential and hoping that when he entered secondary school, he would be placed in a good environment to develop his thinking, Ms. Thuy researched some secondary schools and introduced them to him. Unexpectedly, Dung was interested, set his own goals and was determined to conquer these schools.

“The more my child studied, the more conscious he became. I also saw that his determination was greater than what I thought. That was when I decided to accompany him to conquer this goal,” she recalled.

However, this mother said that her child does not study much, only goes to bed at 9:30 pm, but when studying, he is very focused and disciplined.

“My family has a rule that if I get bored with studying, I can get up. My parents also don’t push me to be interested in studying next time.

In addition, parents do not need to sit next to their children every time they study. Even in the second grade, when they had to study online for nearly a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the mother did not have to sit next to her child to see how he was studying. In all the sessions, Dung studied by himself," said Ms. Thuy.

However, this mother also believes that parents still have to accompany their children so that they have more support and feel more secure, because at primary school level, children are still young and cannot determine what they need to achieve their goals.

In addition to parental support, being guided by good teachers is also an important factor in helping children develop and achieve their goals.

Talking about Dung, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao, homeroom teacher of grade 5, La Khe Primary School, was impressed because this is a student with good thinking, outstanding in math and language, always studying all subjects equally.

“Dung also has good life skills and a rich understanding of nature and society. Despite his young age, Dung has a strong determination and always knows how to set goals,” said Ms. Thao.

During her teaching career, Ms. Thao has met many excellent students, but to the young teacher, Dung still left a deep impression with his efforts and determination to strive.

Passing the entrance exam to 6 "hot" middle schools in Hanoi, Ms. Thuy said that Dung wishes to study at the Gifted Middle School of the University of Education.

“The family always respects the child’s inclinations and desires. Dung’s dream is to pursue the field of Mathematics and Information Technology, so I will stand by his side and accompany him during his secondary school years to conquer this dream,” Ms. Thuy shared.

The admission score for grade 6 at a 'hot' school in the capital city , Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary and High School, has just announced the admission score is 24/30, meaning students must achieve an average of 8 points/subject, not counting priority points, to be admitted.
