Male student takes younger sister to exam school, causes a storm online: "The family only has a bicycle"

(Dan Tri) - "The family only had a bicycle, so the two of us took a motorbike taxi to go first to avoid being late for the exam. My mother slowly cycled behind us," shared the male student in the story of going to the exam with his sister that went viral on the internet in Hanoi.

On the morning of June 9, at the Hanoi - Amsterdam High School exam site, the image of a little girl being taken care of by volunteer students because her brother had to take the exam caused strong emotions.

Some parents bought breakfast for the children, a while later, the mother of the two brothers rode her bike over.

The male student who brought his younger sister to the exam above is Nguyen Manh Duc, a student of class 9A3, school year 2024-2025, Dich Vong Hau Secondary School, Cau Giay district, Hanoi.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Manh Duc said that after the exam, some of his classmates reported that the image of his sister at the exam site of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School was being shared widely on social networks.

According to Duc, his sister is 7 years old this year. The two siblings study close to each other, so he takes his sister to school every day and picks her up in the afternoon. He is so busy around the time of the 10th grade entrance exam, so his mother takes his sister to and from school instead.

Sharing about going to the exam with his sister, Duc said: "We only have a bicycle, so we took a motorbike taxi to the exam site first to avoid being late, my mother slowly followed behind on her bike. When we got to the school, I went in to take the exam while my sister sat outside waiting for her to come," Duc said.

According to this male student, in previous exams, his little sister always followed Duc and sat outside waiting for her mother like that.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, teacher Phan Trung Nghia, Natural Science teacher, homeroom teacher of class 9A3 said, Manh Duc was born on January 7, 2006 - 4 years older than his classmates.

In the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school years, he was a student in classes 6A6 and 7A6. When studying with his peers, Duc was a good student but did not have many outstanding achievements, his academic performance was average.

In the 2019-2020 school year, due to family circumstances, Manh Duc had to drop out of school halfway through his 8th grade year.

Due to family reasons, Manh Duc dropped out of school for 3 consecutive years, from 2020 to 2023. In the 2023-2024 school year, Duc was able to return to school as a student in class 8A3.

Sharing about the incident that forced him to drop out of school, from a male student with good academic performance, but after returning to school, with effort and with the dedicated support of teachers, Duc rose to achieve excellent results, Duc said: "The secret is nothing but hard work".

According to this male student, he did not take extra classes outside, but only studied with his teachers at school. When he returned to school after the family incident, he told himself that he had to be determined to work hard, listen attentively at school, and do a lot of practice tests.

Sometimes I study until 1-2am, but sometimes I go to bed around 10pm: "It depends on my mental state and health, I shouldn't force myself to study too late every day," Duc said.

It is known that in this year's 10th grade entrance exam, Duc took the exam at some specialized schools and Yen Hoa High School, Cau Giay.

Teacher Phan Trung Nghia also said that in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years, Manh Duc achieved the title of excellent student with 7/8 subjects having an average score of 9.0 or higher.

In the recent mid-term exam, Manh Duc's total score of the 3 math-literature-English tests was the highest in the entire grade 9.

Duc was elected class monitor, but to have more time to study, he was transferred to be the deputy monitor in charge of studying.

Since returning to school, the school board and teachers have paid great attention to Duc. The school has repeatedly proposed support for him in the spirit of overcoming difficulties in studying. The Cau Giay District Association for the Promotion of Education also gave the boy a bicycle to use to get to school.

"Manh Duc is a typical example of studiousness and perseverance in overcoming difficulties for other students to follow," said Mr. Nghia.
