US temporarily eases financial sanctions on Russia due to summit

According to a VNA reporter in Washington, in a statement, the US Treasury Department stated that all transactions prohibited under Russian sanctions are allowed until August 20.

These are typically transactions related to and necessary for attending or supporting meetings in Alaska between the United States Government and the Government of the Russian Federation.

US officials are actively preparing for the upcoming summit with Russia in Alaska.

NBC News reported that US Vice President JD Vance assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European partners that Washington would not conduct any negotiations with Russia on a solution to the conflict in Ukraine without the participation of Kiev and its European allies.

NBC News quoted two senior German government officials who directly participated in the August 13 phone call as saying that President Trump, Vice President Vance and other members of the US administration showed special interest in issues that Ukraine and its European allies considered key in the diplomatic negotiation process.

Regarding the US-Russia summit, Deputy Head of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexey Fadeyev confirmed that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend.

According to a VNA reporter in Moscow, Mr. Fadeyev also said that in Alaska, President Putin and President Trump are expected to discuss all issues in bilateral relations between the two countries, including the Ukraine crisis.

So far, most of the reporters accompanying President Putin on his trip to Alaska have received US visas. These visas are single-entry visas, valid until next November.

The location chosen for the first Russia-US summit since 2019 is the Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force and Army Base in Anchorage, Alaska, USA.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on August 15 (local time), when it will be August 16 in Russia. This is also the first time the meeting between the Russian and American presidents has taken place on American soil.

In connection with this event, Anchorage airspace will be closed all day under “VIP travel” regulations. Restrictions will apply within a radius of 48,300m and at altitudes up to 5,500m./.
