The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has recorded many cases of unspeakable violations, but the recent incident during a carry-on baggage search at Los Angeles International Airport (California) completely exceeded their imagination.

Illegal items found in female passenger's carry-on luggage

The incident occurred on December 15 when security personnel discovered suspicious objects in a female passenger's carry-on luggage as it passed through the scanner at Terminal 4 of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

During the search, they found 82 firecrackers, three knives, two replica weapons and a can of pepper spray in the carry-on luggage for the flight from LAX to Philadelphia (Pennsylvania).

"The number of prohibited items found on a plane in a single security screening is truly alarming," CNN quoted Jason Pantages, TSA director at LAX, as saying at a press conference on December 23. According to him, this incident is a reminder for all passengers to double-check their carry-on items before arriving at the airport.

According to the TSA, the type of fireworks found were sold on the consumer market, so they were less powerful than fireworks used for display. However, explosives such as fireworks are prohibited from being transported in checked or carry-on baggage. Knives, replica weapons, and small cans of pepper spray are allowed on domestic flights in the United States.

The female passenger was questioned by police, while the airport's bomb disposal team confiscated the prohibited items.

TSA counted 2.6 million passengers passing through security checkpoints across the United States on December 15, up from 2.5 million on the same day last year.
