Muller admits it will be difficult to join MU in the summer of 2025. |
The 35-year-old striker will end his career at Bayern Munich after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™ and will become a free agent. Muller is expected to move to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the US.
Muller was wanted by Louis van Gaal, when he was the head coach of Manchester United, in 2015. The veteran German striker revealed that he was attracted by the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
"Yes, I thought about going to England," Muller told CBS Sports . "There were times when I thought it would be great to experience playing in the Premier League."
However, when asked if moving to MU was an attractive option, Muller admitted: "Before or now? Now? No, no. I'm not the right person for them and they're not the right club for me. We wouldn't be happy and neither would they. This time is not the perfect combination."
In an interview with The Athletic in 2020, Muller affirmed: "I imagined I could go to MU. The fact that I wanted to go was true, not a joke. The deal became serious with Louis van Gaal. There were negotiations but Bayern wanted me to stay. In the end, I couldn't leave."
Promoted to Bayern's first team in 2008 after growing up from the club's youth academy, Muller is the player who has won the most Bundesliga titles in history with 12 championships, and also owns all the major and minor titles with the Bavarian team.
On the international stage, Muller has 131 caps for Germany and will retire from the national team after Euro 2024. He now has the opportunity to add to his trophy collection with Bayern as the team competes in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.
