Mbeumo's move to MU is unlikely. |
The race to sign Bryan Mbeumo is heating up day by day. According to Daily Mail , Tottenham Hotspur suddenly "made a strong move" with an offer that far surpassed Manchester United.
Specifically, Spurs have sent Brentford an offer worth 70 million pounds (including 65 million pounds fixed and 5 million pounds additional fees), much higher than the 60 million pounds that Manchester United (50 million pounds plus 10 million additional fees) previously offered.
Manchester United are still considered Mbeumo's preferred destination, especially when they can pay a hefty salary of up to £200,000/week (including bonuses), while Tottenham can only pay around £130,000 - £140,000/week. However, Spurs' biggest advantage at the moment lies in the human factor: Coach Thomas Frank, who has been closely associated with Mbeumo at Brentford since 2019, now wants to reunite with his former student at Tottenham.
Frank's arrival and their ambition to secure Champions League football next season have made Spurs a viable option for Mbeumo, while Brentford remain firm in their belief that the Cameroonian, who scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League last season, is worth £70m.
Notably, Mbeumo is only behind Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland in the list of top scorers, an achievement that proves he is capable of shining at any big team.
United, who spent a huge £60m on Matheus Cunha, appear unwilling to raise their asking price for Mbeumo any further, leaving the door wide open for Tottenham to complete the deal in the near future. Brentford are also preparing for the departure of their star attacker, who has just one year left on his current contract with the option of an extension.
With talent, consistent form and the ability to operate widely in tactical schemes, Bryan Mbeumo is not only a quality contract, but can also be the first strong affirmation of the Thomas Frank dynasty at Spurs.
