As a mountainous district, Mu Cang Chai has a total area of wet fields of more than 4,400 hectares, the annual rice cultivation area reaches over 6,100 hectares. Therefore, along with the development of hybrid rice varieties to ensure local food security, in recent years, implementing the policy of converting the structure of crops and livestock; changing the mindset from agricultural production to agricultural economy , Mu Cang Chai district has promoted the advantages of soil, climate, and local water resources in the two communes of Cao Pha and Nam Co to expand the area of Tan sticky rice cultivation in the direction of commodity production.

Located adjacent to Tu Le commune, Van Chan district, Cao Pha and Nam Co communes have natural conditions such as soil, climate and water resources similar to Tu Le, helping people develop quality Tan sticky rice (Tu Le sticky rice) to become a commodity. In particular, Cao Pha commune has a total area of wet rice fields of over 320 hectares, with more than 270 hectares of rice cultivated 2 crops/year.

Currently, in addition to planting hybrid rice and non-rice varieties to ensure local food security, people have effectively promoted the unique advantages bestowed by nature to convert sandy soil fields near streams, proactively take advantage of irrigation water, expand the production area of Tan sticky rice, contributing to increasing income per unit area.

Mr. Giang A Thenh - Vice Chairman of Cao Pha Commune People's Committee said: "Because Tan sticky rice has high economic value, in addition to harvesting old rice for rice, in recent years, selling young rice to rice pounding facilities in Tu Le commune has also been very convenient and brought high income, so people are also confident in converting suitable rice fields from growing ordinary rice to growing Tan sticky rice as a commodity."

Thanks to that, the current Tan sticky rice cultivation area of Cao Pha commune has reached over 100 hectares/year, with an output of over 500 tons. Located in the same upstream area of Tu Le commune, Nam Co commune also has similar natural conditions in terms of weather, climate, soil and water resources, and is also a commune with a large area and a large area of wet fields, so the Tan sticky rice cultivation area according to the commune's statistics is over 150 hectares/year, not to mention the areas that people spontaneously convert according to each crop season. Every year, Nam Co commune exports a large amount of young rice to the market to make green rice flakes and Tan sticky rice, bringing a large source of income to the people.

Mr. Sung A Ninh, Ta Ghenh village, Nam Co commune shared: "Apart from farming and working for hire around the commune during the harvest season, my family has no other source of income, so to increase income and have conditions for my children to study. With the family's rice field area, in recent years, I have only left more than 2 sao to grow rice 2 crops/year to get enough rice to eat, the remaining area I have switched to growing Tan sticky rice. Thanks to that, after deducting expenses and the remaining portion to eat during the year, I also earn more than 20 million VND from selling sticky rice each crop."

In addition to expanding the cultivation area, focusing on applying science and technology to production, intensive farming, processing, preservation... to improve productivity, output, quality, and economic efficiency of Tan sticky rice, Mu Cang Chai district has also focused on output as well as building a brand, creating prestige for Tan sticky rice in the market.

Currently, Cao Pha commune has established Khau Pha Organic Agriculture Cooperative, linking 60 households in the commune to cultivate Tan sticky rice with a total area of over 14 hectares, with a total output of over 70 tons/year to gradually promote and enhance the brand of Tan sticky rice products. At the same time, the Cooperative has also strictly implemented the process of selecting seeds, caring for, harvesting, and drying in an organic direction, helping to improve the quality of rice, beautiful appearance and being chosen by many consumers in and outside the province.

In the coming time, in order for local Tan sticky rice products to be known by more consumers, especially to increase their competitiveness in the market, along with focusing on applying science and technology to production, intensive farming, processing, and preservation in a "clean" direction by producers, it is also necessary to pay attention to orientation, attract investment, and promote Tan sticky rice products from Party committees and authorities at all levels so that Tan sticky rice products increasingly bring higher economic value to local people.
