Cyber threats, also known as online threats, are a type of cybersecurity risk that can cause problems or unwanted behavior on the internet. Here, online threats can arise from security vulnerabilities in the devices of users, developers, website operators or web services. Regardless of the purpose or cause of the attack, the consequences of online threats can be serious for both individuals and organizations.

According to the report, threat actors targeting businesses in the Philippines increased by 243%, from 492,567 incidents in 2022 to 1,691,167 in 2023. Companies in Singapore also saw an 86% increase in cyberthreats, from 889,093 cases in 2022 to 1,653,726 in 2023. Meanwhile, cyberattacks in Thailand increased by 24%, with the number of cyberthreats targeting businesses increasing from 1,232,311 in 2022 to 1,531,430 in 2023.

“Local businesses need to prioritise strengthening their cybersecurity defences to counter cyberthreats that could undermine the benefits of digital transformation,” said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky. To help businesses in Southeast Asia build a strong cybersecurity defence, Kaspersky has launched its new enterprise suite – Kaspersky Next, a next-generation line of security products for businesses, designed to combat sophisticated cyberattacks in today’s technological age.
