According to Dr. Bui Quy Thuan, Head of the Research Department, Vietnam Industrial Zone Finance Association (VIPFA), in the phone call between General Secretary To Lam and President Donald Trump last night, General Secretary To Lam proposed that the US soon recognize Vietnam as a market economy and remove export restrictions on some high-tech products, promote cooperation in the fields of economics, trade and investment, especially in key and breakthrough areas such as science and high technology.
Along with that, the two senior leaders exchanged a number of major directions and measures to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming years.
According to Dr. Bui Quy Thuan, if the US recognizes Vietnam as a market economy and lifts export restrictions on some high-tech products, as mentioned in the phone call between General Secretary To Lam and President Donald Trump on July 2, 2025, it could bring significant benefits to Vietnam such as: Reducing trade barriers, the US recognition of Vietnam as a market economy will help Vietnamese goods be treated more fairly in anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations.
