The 26-year-old striker accused PSG of "moral harassment and attempted blackmail to force him to renew his contract".
The case has been referred to France's unit for the suppression of crimes against the person (BRDP). And two investigators began investigating Mbappe's allegations this week.
The trouble started in July 2023, when Mbappe firmly refused to renew his contract with PSG and wanted to move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024. PSG claimed that Mbappe had broken his promise and threatened to bench him for the entire 2023-2024 season.
Thanks to the intervention of coach Luis Enrique, the two sides sat down to negotiate and in the end Mbappe was still allowed to play. The condition that PSG put forth was that Mbappe had to give up a huge loyalty fee of up to 44 million USD.
PSG confirmed that Mbappe had agreed to the deal. However, the French striker later sued his former club, demanding $60 million in compensation. A lawsuit is currently being considered by a French court in parallel with this case.
However, the "harassment and blackmail" lawsuit is being handled separately. Mbappe believes that PSG's threat to "sit him out" for the entire season if he does not sign a new contract is blatant "harassment and blackmail".
Notably, in January 2024, the French Professional Footballers' Association sent a report to a number of Ligue 1 clubs about "harassment and blackmail" of players. Typically, forcing players to sit on the bench if they refused to stay or leave according to the team's wishes.
Mbappe is said to be one of the cases affected by this behavior.
