On July 30, Viet Duc Hospital reported a traffic accident case with a series of serious injuries that was saved.
Previously, on July 11, a male patient (35 years old, Hung Yen ) was transferred to Viet Duc Hospital for emergency treatment after a traffic accident. The patient was admitted to the hospital in critical condition, with severe multiple internal injuries.
Relatives said the accident happened when the patient lost control of his motorbike and fell into a pile of steel.
The patient suffered a series of serious injuries including: liver rupture, diaphragm rupture, colon rupture, lung impact, complex chest and abdominal wounds exposing all internal organs, lungs, and multiple wounds to the face, chest, and abdomen.
The patient was urgently transferred from Hung Yen General Hospital to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in a state of severe shock, severe blood loss, and life-threatening every minute.
Dr. Cao Manh Thau, Department of Oncology and Radiation Therapy, Viet Duc Hospital said that as soon as the patient was admitted, the hospital activated the internal red alert, mobilizing specialized teams: Emergency, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Emergency Digestive Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma, Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Anesthesia and Surgical Resuscitation to coordinate emergency treatment.

The patient was transfused with 4 liters of blood during the surgery. After the intense surgery, the doctors sutured the ruptured liver, cut the colon, and used both ends to create a temporary colostomy; combined the broken arm and ankle bones; treated the complex wound that lost the skin and fascia covering the organs in the chest and abdomen; treated the complex wound in the maxillofacial area...
After nearly 20 days of treatment, the patient's condition has gradually stabilized. The patient is currently conscious and stable, and continues to receive treatment at the hospital.
Dr. Cao Manh Thau recommends that in serious traffic accidents - shock, heavy bleeding, exposed internal organs, head, chest, and abdominal injuries - patients need to be given first aid and quickly taken to the nearest medical facility or directly transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.
Early emergency care, timely and proper first aid, multidisciplinary coordination... will increase the chance of saving critical trauma cases like this patient.
