Rodri and Phil Foden were both absent from the 2025-26 Premier League opener as Man City cruised to a 4-0 win over Wolves.
Rodri has been out for six weeks after picking up a groin injury in the Club World Cup win over Al Hilal. The Spanish midfielder has only returned to full training with the team in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Phil Foden, who impressed in pre-season, picked up an ankle injury ahead of the friendly against Palermo and will not be travelling to Sicily with the team.
Pep Guardiola confirmed that both Rodri and Foden were fit to play against Wolves, but were left out of the squad due to concerns over fitness. However, after a week of injury-free training, both are ready to face Tottenham tonight.

"Rodri and Phil missed the last game just because of lack of training and rhythm. They couldn't play 90 minutes but they are ready for tomorrow. I want Rodri to be consistent. I have no doubt about his potential, he is the best player in the world by far. In a few months, we will elect a new one. I have no doubts but I want consistency in training, in games and in playing time, then everything will be fine," said Guardiola.
The return of Rodri and Foden will certainly add strength to Man City, while also creating more pressure to compete for places in the squad. However, The Citizens will still be without four key players for their first home Premier League match.
Savinho is still recovering from injury, with Tottenham interested. Mateo Kovacic is out until October after Achilles surgery. Marcus Bettinelli picked up an injury in pre-season, and Josko Gvardiol is still out. The Croatian has been seen training this week, but it is too early for him to be fit.
