Can Tho Armed Forces received the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal

On the 80th anniversary of its founding, the Can Tho armed forces were honored to receive the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal from the President.

On July 29, the Can Tho City Military Command held a ceremony to receive the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal and celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Can Tho Armed Forces (July 30, 1945 - July 30, 2025).

Looking back over the past 80 years, Colonel Pham Ngoc Quang, Political Commissar of the Can Tho City Military Command, said that in the two resistance wars against the French and the Americans, the Can Tho Armed Forces achieved many glorious victories such as the Battle of the Fiery Arc, the Xa No uprising, Ong Hao - Ang Kham, Tan Hiep, Ong Cuu, Chay Dap, Quang Phong, Mot Ngan... The heroic fighting process created the tradition of "loyalty to the Party, solidarity between the army and the people, self-reliance, bravery and determination to win", leaving many marks in the hearts of the people.

In peacetime, the Can Tho City Military Command is the first unit in the entire army to organize the military-civilian Tet model, the military-civilian Tet celebrates Chol Chnam Thmay with many activities to care for the people and many meaningful social welfare projects. Every year, the Can Tho City Military Command also uses the production increase fund to do policy work on holidays and Tet, to support Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, to build houses of gratitude and comradeship with tens of billions of dong.

In the special atmosphere of the 80th anniversary, Can Tho Armed Forces continued to write a glorious page in history when the President awarded the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal for its outstanding achievements in training, combat readiness, building the People's Army, consolidating national defense, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland. Previously, the unit was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the Armed Forces twice (in 1994 and 2010).

According to Colonel Pham Ngoc Quang, the achievements above are the result of a collective of constant efforts and growth. The leadership of the Can Tho City Party Committee and the cadres and soldiers through the periods have not spared their blood and bones in exchange for independence and freedom for the country. This will be a great motivation for the Can Tho Military Region to strive to become a typical clean and strong unit, determined to excellently complete all assigned tasks in the coming time.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Do Thanh Binh, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, expressed his excitement when the Can Tho Armed Forces were awarded the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal. This is a noble award, a worthy recognition by the Party, State and people for the silent but extremely great contributions and sacrifices of generations of Can Tho Armed Forces officers and soldiers over the past 80 years. This is not only an honor for the Can Tho Armed Forces but also a pride for the Party Committee, government and people of the city.
