Series of Southern lottery companies make huge profits, prize payout costs tens of thousands of billions

Lottery companies in the Southern region have announced their 2025 semi-annual financial reports, showing that most businesses recorded growth in revenue and profit. Prize payout costs also increased accordingly.

The Southern region includes 21 lottery companies. The total revenue of these companies in the first half of 2025 reached a record of VND 75,877 billion, up 9.09% over the same period in 2024; and pre-tax profit was VND 9,926 billion, up 9.14%.

Revenue improved, and bonus expenses also increased to more than 37,100 billion VND.

Most Southern lottery companies have growing revenue

Ho Chi Minh City Lottery Company Limited continues to lead the region with first-half revenue reaching VND 7,027 billion, an increase of nearly 11% over the same period in 2024.

On the other hand, total operating expenses and cost of goods sold reached VND5,045 billion, up 12% over the same period last year, causing pre-tax profit of Ho Chi Minh City Lottery to decrease slightly by more than 1% to VND970 billion.

According to the financial report of Binh Duong Lottery, the company's revenue in the first 6 months of the year reached nearly 3,200 billion VND, an increase of 7% over the same period last year. After deducting expenses, the pre-tax profit of this lottery company reached 479 billion VND, an increase of nearly 9%.

Meanwhile, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Lottery reported revenue of VND3,078 billion, an increase of more than 5%, and after-tax profit of VND416 billion, a slight decrease compared to VND426 billion in the same period last year.

Ho Chi Minh City Lottery has maintained its leading position in the industry for 12 consecutive years. However, according to the plan, after Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau merge into Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong Lottery and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Lottery will be handed over to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for management.

In terms of revenue scale before the merger, the company with revenue ranked right after Ho Chi Minh City is Tra Vinh Lottery with 3,270 billion VND in the first 6 months of this year, up nearly 10% over the same period. Meanwhile, pre-tax profit was 417 billion VND, down more than 7%.

Next is Dong Nai Lottery, which recorded revenue of VND3,213 billion in the first 6 months of this year, up 9%. Pre-tax profit was VND507 billion, up sharply by 15.4%.

Tay Ninh Lottery also achieved high revenue with 3,210 billion VND, an increase of more than 10% over the same period.

The remaining lottery companies in Tien Giang, Long An, Binh Thuan, Can Tho, An Giang, Vinh Long... all had revenue exceeding 3,100 billion VND and recorded growth compared to the same period.

Bonus costs also increased

It is estimated that based on data in the 2025 semi-annual financial report, the ratio of prize payment expenses to sales revenue of 21 lottery companies in the South is approximately 50%, equivalent to more than 37,100 billion VND, an increase of nearly 10% over the same period.

Of which, Binh Duong Lottery Company spent 1,720 billion VND on prizes, an increase of nearly 10%. Or Tra Vinh Lottery spent 1,765 billion VND on prizes, an increase of nearly 11%.

Many other lottery companies also paid out prizes of around 1,700 billion VND such as Tay Ninh, Vinh Long, Bac Lieu, Dong Nai, Ben Tre, An Giang, Binh Thuan...

Previously, Vietlott also announced its semi-annual financial report for 2025, with revenue from lottery tax of VND 4,565 billion, an increase of more than 12% over the same period.

The pre-tax profit of this computerized lottery company reached 244.4 billion VND, up nearly 16% over the same period. Vietlott also spent nearly 2,500 billion VND to pay prizes to players, up 11% over the same period.

It can be seen that the prize payment costs of both Vietlott and traditional lottery companies are around more than 50% of total revenue, without much difference.

However, Vietlott follows the "computer lottery" model, which is more flexible in choosing numbers and has high cumulative prizes, thus creating a strong media effect. Meanwhile, traditional lottery relies on pre-printed tickets with fixed prizes.
