According to 9to5Mac, the tech world is paying special attention to the latest MacBook predictions from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He said Apple may be planning to launch a completely new MacBook line with a significantly lower price than current models, aiming to reach a more mainstream user group.

The biggest surprise is that this MacBook will likely use A-series chips – originally designed for the iPhone. If this information is correct, this would be an unprecedented step for Apple, marking an important change in the company's product strategy and hardware structure.

Apple may be planning to launch a brand new MacBook line at a lower price point.

According to the latest share from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on social network X, Apple is said to start the production line of a special low-cost MacBook model in late 2025 or early 2026. Instead of using M-series chips like current MacBook lines, this model will be equipped with A18 Pro chip - the chip currently used on iPhone 16 Pro, marking the first time Apple has brought iPhone chips to a laptop line.

The product's design promises to be youthful and modern with many color options such as silver, pink and gold - reminiscent of the fresh style seen on the iMac M1 line. Despite its eye-catching appearance, the new MacBook still retains the same 13-inch screen size as the MacBook Air, ensuring familiar mobility for users.

The biggest difference – and the main factor that helps reduce the price – is the processor inside. Using A-series chips instead of M-series allows Apple to reduce production costs while maintaining stable performance for common tasks. This could be a strategy to help Apple expand its customer base, especially students and office users.

The question now is: How “soft” will the price be? Although there is no official information, Mr. Kuo said Apple is aiming to produce 5 to 7 million units in 2026. With such a large scale, it is highly likely that Apple will offer an unprecedentedly attractive price to create a big push in the global laptop market.

Apple’s inclusion of an iPhone chip — specifically the A18 Pro — in a MacBook has many users questioning whether the chip is powerful enough. However, initial performance analysis offers an optimistic view. According to Geekbench scores, the A18 Pro’s single-core performance is only slightly lower than the latest M4 chip, while its multi-core score is on par with the M1 chip, which still runs smoothly for most common needs today.

With such performance, the MacBook using the iPhone chip can completely meet the needs of office tasks, studying, browsing the web or watching movies - the most common needs of ordinary users. In this segment, the important factor is not superior power, but stability, long battery life and smooth experience in basic tasks. That shows that ordinary users will hardly notice much difference compared to the MacBook Air line using the M1 chip.

But the key to success for the new product line will be price. Apple will have to convince users that the small difference in performance is worth the more accessible price. If it gets it right, this could be the turning point that brings Apple into the low-cost laptop segment – something it has never done before – and usher in a whole new era of competition in the global personal computer market.
