In just a short time, a series of cosmetic accidents occurred in Ho Chi Minh City, seriously affecting the health of patients.

On July 29, the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a document conveying the direction of Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy regarding press reports on the field of cosmetic surgery.

Accordingly, the Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to continue to strengthen inspection and closely monitor cosmetic hospitals that show signs of illegal operations, which have recently caused medical accidents in the city. At the same time, strictly handle violations of the law related to this field.

Previously, the city continuously recorded cases of accidents and complications after cosmetic surgery in the area. Specifically, on July 4, a woman suffered anaphylactic shock after undergoing cosmetic surgery on her private area at Diva Saigon Cosmetic Clinic (District 11).

The patient was treated on the spot and then transferred to People's Hospital 115. On July 3, the Inspectorate of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health coordinated to inspect and clarify the medical incident after liposuction surgery at Kangnam Saigon Cosmetic Hospital (666 Cach Mang Thang Tam, Tan Binh District).

On June 15, Ms. NTHY (30 years old) went to Korea Star Hospital (781/C9 Le Hong Phong, Ward 12, District 10) for breast implant surgery. She suffered respiratory failure and had to be intubated and transferred to Military Hospital 175 for resuscitation.

Also at this facility, patient PTCT (29 years old) suffered respiratory failure after a day of breast augmentation and arm liposuction surgery, and was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for further treatment. The Department of Health requested that this facility completely stop all surgical and procedural activities from 1:30 p.m. on June 19. At the same time, it sent an additional working group to inspect, evaluate, and identify risks affecting patient safety.

The most serious case was the death of a 33-year-old woman after a nose job using silicone and ear cartilage at the cosmetic clinic of Thailand Hospital International Cosmetic Hospital Co., Ltd. (86-88 Pasteur, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1) on June 4.

After being anesthetized with 2% Lidocaine in the ear, the patient experienced symptoms of numbness around the mouth, bitter taste in the mouth, blurred vision, rapid pulse, low blood pressure, and was treated for shock. The patient was transferred to People's Hospital 115 for emergency treatment but died that same evening.

On July 23, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health issued an official dispatch requesting provincial and municipal health departments to urgently inspect and verify at the local management level cosmetic establishments that impersonate hospitals and have ambiguous expertise; continue to strengthen inspection, supervision, and legal education for medical examination and treatment establishments to strictly carry out medical examination and treatment in accordance with regulations.

Previously, the media reported that many cosmetic facilities impersonated hospitals, with ambiguous expertise. Unqualified cosmetic facilities are still operating illegally, and many beauty facilities have impersonated major hospitals to deceive customers. Many people have been victims of these fake facilities (for cosmetic service names such as "beauty salon", "beauty institute", "beauty center"...).
