Match schedule of U.17 Vietnam

Vietnam U.17 is urgently preparing to enter the group stage of the 2025 AFC U.17 Championship. In Group B, coach Cristiano Roland and his team will face Japan U.17, Australia U.17 and UAE U.17. Japan U.17 is the defending champion, while Australia U.17 has also reached the semi-finals three times.

In the opening match at 10pm on April 4, U.17 Vietnam will face U.17 Australia. Then at 10pm on April 7, U.17 Vietnam will face U.17 Japan. The final match of the group stage for coach Roland and his team will take place at 10pm on April 10, against U.17 UAE.

U.17 Vietnam gathered the team yesterday (March 3) at the training ground of the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.

Attractive match schedule of U.17 Vietnam

With only about 1 month to train and perfect the squad as well as strengthen the playing style, it is easy to see that the players who participated in the 2025 AFC U17 qualifiers continue to dominate the list of 34 players called up. In fact, they are also the best players according to coach Roland.

However, opportunities for "new recruits" are also very open, because the competition in the Vietnam U.17 team is very positive and fair.

"In the list of 34 players called up this time, there are some new players joining the national team for the first time. During the training period, the coaching staff will observe and evaluate, thereby shortening the list to gradually select the most optimal force," said coach Roland.

Overseas Vietnamese factors worth watching

Sharing about the case of Vietnamese-American player Thomas Mai Veeren that is attracting much attention, Coach Roland said: "I have learned information about Thomas through the videos I received. In the near future, I will directly verify his ability through training, from which I can compare, evaluate and make decisions.

We will continue to observe and support him to integrate into the team. Whether he can help the team or not will take time. Hopefully he will bring good things to the team."

According to the plan, after the training period at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, the Vietnam U.17 team will go to Oman for training from March 23 to March 29. Here, the team will have 2 "test matches" with the host U.17 Oman before moving to Saudi Arabia to participate in the 2025 AFC U.17 Championship finals.

Joining coach Roland on the coaching staff is assistant coach Fernando Atz Gabriel (Portugal), along with Vietnamese assistant coaches including: Nguyen Dai Dong ( Hanoi Club), Hoang Tuan Anh (PVF), Nguyen Ngoc Duy (PVF), goalkeeper coach Tran Van Dien (PVF) and Brazilian fitness expert Brandi Regato Neto Jose (VFF).

In order to improve the quality of the U.17 Vietnam coaching staff to face bigger challenges at the 2025 AFC U.17 Finals, with the support and recommendation of the Japan Football Federation, VFF decided to appoint Mr. Yutaka Ikeuchi as a technical supervisor, accompanying Coach Roland and his colleagues.
