Patriot Le Trung Dinh was born in 1857 in Phu Nhuan village, Binh Son district (now Truong Quang Trong ward, Quang Ngai province) in a prestigious family of scholars. He was the sixth son of Mr. Le Trung Luong, a famous Thanh Liem mandarin under the reign of King Tu Duc.
Patriot Le Trung Dinh was one of the pioneering intellectuals in the Can Vuong movement, an uprising against French colonialism in Central Vietnam, sparking and encouraging a series of uprisings in the provinces.
The uprising in 1885 initiated and led by Le Trung Dinh in Quang Ngai, although short-lived and the rebel forces were all farmers and patriotic scholars, left an indelible mark in the glorious and heroic history of the nation.
In the unequal battle with the enemy, patriot Le Trung Dinh was captured alive by the enemy. On July 23, 1885, patriot Le Trung Dinh was beheaded by the French in the North of Quang Ngai citadel when he was only 28 years old.
The noble sacrifice of patriot Le Trung Dinh aroused the indomitable revolutionary spirit among the people and for the next generation. To remember the merits and example of patriot Le Trung Dinh, after the success of the August Revolution in 1945 and before the election of the 1st National Assembly , the revolutionary government changed the name of Quang Ngai province to Le Trung Dinh province.
Today, some streets and schools in the province are also named Le Trung Dinh.
Commemorating the death anniversary of patriot Le Trung Dinh is not only a way to show gratitude and remembrance, but also an opportunity for today's generation to arouse national pride and strengthen faith in the path of innovation and national development.
