Pentagon receives hundreds of UFO sighting reports

Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the Pentagon's Office of UFO Investigations, told CNN that his office had received about 801 UFO reports as of April, up from 650 reports in August 2022.

Nearly all of the reports involved objects seen in the air, with only one object seen at sea. He also predicted that there would be hundreds, if not thousands, of more reports in the future.

In addition to reports of strange unidentified flying objects, about half of the objects seen are suspected to be balloons or drones. Mr. Kirkpatrick also warned that some of the objects are the product of America's adversaries trying to spy on the country.

His concerns are not surprising. In February, a Chinese spy balloon was shot down off the coast of South Carolina. The object caused concern after it entered US airspace, but failed to gather any intelligence.

“Some of the indicators, the information about the object are concerning. It could be a product of foreign espionage. So we are investigating those things very carefully, ” said Sean Kirkpatrick.

According to him, 2 to 4 percent of the reports are truly unusual and require further investigation. Meanwhile, a very small percentage of reports have interesting signs, such as objects traveling at high speeds, or having an unidentified shape.

Previously, the Pentagon also released a report on UFOs appearing near restricted US military airspace. This report concluded that the appearance of such strange objects posed safety issues for military flights, aviation assets, and required flight pattern adjustments. However, to date, no collisions between US aircraft and UFOs have been reported.

Sean Kirkpatrick's new report comes at a time of growing public interest in UFOs. In July, the US Congress held hearings on the issue that attracted significant public attention.

At the hearing, former National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency member David Grusch claimed that the US government was in possession of intact non-human vehicles. However, Mr. Kirkpatrick rejected this claim. At the time, Kirkpatrick told CNN that Mr. Grusch had provided no evidence that the US had anything extraterrestrial.

“If anyone thinks they know where these things are, they should come talk to us. We set up this office so people can come and talk to us safely,” Kirkpatrick said.

Meanwhile, public interest in UFOs was also stirred in September, when UFO expert Jaime Maussan testified before the Mexican Congress that he had discovered two bodies that were “not human.”

Mr Maussan's claims have yet to be proven. He has previously been linked to similar sensational claims of discovery, which were later debunked.
