Enhancing heritage value – Connecting sustainable development
The ceremony to receive the title is not only an occasion to honor the value of Lang Son's geological heritage and traditional culture, but also a strong start to promote tourism potential, call for investment, and promote sustainable socio -economic development. Within the framework of the event, many important activities were held such as: Annual Conference of the Expert Subcommittee on Vietnam Global Geopark, Seminar on Lang Son Geopark Development, and signing of cooperation agreements with international partners.
The UNESCO Director General and international delegates also surveyed the Park's outstanding heritage sites such as Na Lung Than Garden, Hoa Hoi Station, Tam Thanh Pagoda, interacted with students and local communities, and experienced the unique culture of Lang Son.
New gem of the Global Geoparks network
Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark was recognized by the Global Geoparks Council in September 2024 and officially announced by UNESCO in April 2025, becoming the fourth Global Geopark in Vietnam, after Dong Van (Ha Giang), Non Nuoc Cao Bang and Dak Nong.
Covering an area of nearly 4,843 km², accounting for 58% of the province’s area and 78% of its population, the park is a unique natural and cultural treasure. Over 500 million years of geological evolution, this place preserves many valuable vestiges: from ancient seas, volcanoes, ironwood forests to majestic cave systems such as Nguom Mooc Cave, Tham Lum and Ung Roac sinkholes – attractive destinations for tourists who love exploration and science.
Not only stopping at geology, the park is also notable for its biodiversity (Huu Lien Nature Reserve) and rich culture, with intangible heritages recognized by UNESCO such as the Mother Goddess Worship of the Vietnamese people, Then of the Tay and Nung people - vivid manifestations of indigenous spirituality and knowledge.
Towards a sustainable future
Since its recognition, Lang Son Global Geopark has become a new tourist highlight, attracting more and more visitors and investors. The province has built 4 tourist routes with the theme "The flow of life in the sacred land", including: Route 1: Discovering the Upper World; Route 2: Journey to the Heavenly Realm; Route 3: Rustic life on earth; Route 4: Road to the Aquarium.
In the coming time, Lang Son aims to build the Park into a pillar of green and sustainable tourism development, with the brand strategy "Lang Son Global Geopark - The flow of life in the sacred land", and the special product "The Great Journey" to attract domestic and foreign tourists.
Receiving the UNESCO Global Geopark title is a great pride and at the same time a heavy responsibility for the government and people of Lang Son in preserving and promoting unique natural and cultural values - so that this place can truly become a beacon of sustainable development, affirming Vietnam's position on the global heritage map.
