Award Ceremony of the Essay and Poetry Writing Contest

A collection of the best works of the Essay and Poetry Writing Contest about Vietnamese Women in Foreign Lands, titled "Vietnamese Flowers in the Snowy Land", is printed at the Writers' Association Publishing House.

The essay and poetry writing contest on "Vietnamese Women Abroad" for Vietnamese women studying and living abroad is co-organized by the Vietnamese Women's Forum in Europe and the Vietnam Writers' Association . The contest aims to honor Vietnamese women abroad, while also encouraging and motivating Vietnamese women in particular and Vietnamese people abroad in general to improve their Vietnamese language and preserve the Vietnamese language in foreign lands.

The contest lasts until mid-August 2024 with two categories: Essays (under 2,000 words) and Poetry (under 40 lines). The Chairman of the Jury is poet and writer Nguyen Quang Thieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association.

Dr. Phan Bich Thien, President of the Vietnamese Women's Forum in Europe, shared: "Living abroad requires Vietnamese women to overcome many difficulties with barriers in language, culture, customs, and to suffer emotional disadvantages from relatives and distance from their homeland. Despite this, Vietnamese women still try to rise up. Each person has a different situation and position, but they are always filled with love for their homeland and the desire to assert themselves in a foreign land."

With 182 entries from 18 countries, not only in Europe but also from the US, Japan, Morocco, and Malaysia, it can be said that the contest has spread throughout the Vietnamese community around the world.

More than a literary contest, this is truly a journey of connecting souls - where the hearts of hundreds of women are raised through poetry, through simple yet passionate prose. Each work is a separate world , authentic stories, carrying within it the nostalgia for being far away from home, memories of home, the silent sacrifices and extraordinary inner strength of Vietnamese women.

There are articles that make the judges shed tears because of their unadorned sincerity; there are poems that touch the heart with a longing for mother and homeland. In each word is a journey full of determination: a journey of integration, preserving identity, raising children and constantly cultivating happiness in a strange place.
