KINOFEST-German Film Festival 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City from November 6 - November 14, 2024

(Fatherland) - KINOFEST is an annual German Film Festival jointly organized by eight (8) Goethe-Instituts in Southeast Asia since 2022. In Vietnam, after the success in Hanoi and Hue in October, KinoFest will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from November 6 to November 14, 2024.


In Ho Chi Minh City, with 7 feature films and 3 documentaries, audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the latest German cinema from 2021 to 2023, thereby helping to provide a comprehensive view of contemporary German life and society. Notably, among the 10 films screened this year, there is a film for children called "Curious Tobi and the Adventure to the Flying Rivers" with unique filming locations in Hanoi, Lan Ha Bay, and Son Doong Cave.

This year also marks an important milestone in the organization of KINOFEST in Ho Chi Minh City when Goethe-Institut received close support and cooperation from the University of Theatre and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City in bringing information about the German Film Festival to a wider audience. In addition, both sides also coordinated and organized exchange and discussion activities between German actor Jan Bülow and German director Sophie Linnenbaum with students of the University of Theatre and Cinema and the audience as follows:

+ November 7, 2024 | 9:00 - 11:00 at the University of Theatre and Cinema: Discussion on "Characters and Contemporary Cinema Language" with director Nguyen Thi Tham and actor Jan Bülow

+ November 13, 2024 | 09:00 - 12:00 at University of Theatre and Cinema: Screening of the film "Ordinary People" and discussion with director Sophie Linnenbaum

In addition, within the framework of the German Film Festival KINOFEST 2024, right after the film screenings, there will also be dialogues between actors and directors from Germany with experts and artists working in related fields in Vietnam as follows at Cinestar Hai Ba Trung:

+ 11/07/2024 | 18:30 – 21:30: Film screening and exchange with German actor Jan Bülow and Dr. Dao Le Na

+ 11/12/2024 | 18:30 – 21:30: Film screening and discussion with Dr. Dao Le Na and artist Mzung Nguyen

+ 11/14/2024 | 18:30 – 21:30: Film screening and discussion with German director Axel Ranisch and the group From Alpha to Opera

The KINOFEST Film Festival in Ho Chi Minh City will open at 18:30 on November 6, 2024 at Cinestar Hai Ba Trung (135 Hai Ba Trung, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1) with the film "The Teacher's Room". This is also a film that has received many nominations and won prestigious awards in Germany, Europe and America. Most notably, it is nominated for the 2024 Oscar for the category 'Best International Film'.

In addition, KinoFest will take place in Binh Duong from November 8 to November 10, 2024, Da Lat and Tien Giang from November 21 to November 24 and in Kien Giang from November 28 to November 30, 2024. In Binh Duong, Da Lat, Tien Giang and Kien Giang, audiences will be able to watch movies completely free of charge at Cinestar Sinh Vien (National University Student Cultural House), Cinestar Da Lat (Lam Vien Square), Cinestar My Tho (52 Dinh Bo Linh, Tien Giang) and Cinestar Kien Giang (Lot A2-Zone 2 Commercial Center, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Rach Soi).
