On June 15, at Long Thanh International Airport (Dong Nai), Vietnam Airlines Corporation and its member units simultaneously started construction on two large-scale aviation service projects: Project No. 1 providing airline meals and Project No. 1 investing in construction and operating aircraft maintenance services.
The two projects, with a total investment of nearly VND1,800 billion, are implemented by Vietnam Air Catering Services Company Limited (VACS) and Vietnam Aircraft Engineering Company Limited (VAECO). These are both key member units of Vietnam Airlines.
These works belong to Component Project 4, the aviation service area at Long Thanh airport, which is planned to develop items such as aircraft maintenance, ground services, catering, logistics and aviation engineering.
The project's goal is to form a synchronous, modern and internationally-standardized exploitation ecosystem at Vietnam's future transit airport.

Delegates started the project.
Mr. Le Duc Canh, Deputy General Director, affirmed that, as a pioneer and a key enterprise in the aviation industry, Vietnam Airlines proactively participated right from the beginning in the process of building and developing Long Thanh airport.
“Through a service ecosystem including catering, technical maintenance, ground operations and aviation fuel supply, Vietnam Airlines is committed to mobilizing all resources along with a wide flight network, with the participation of airlines in the Skyteam alliance, and other strategic cooperation in the aviation sector, to contribute to building Long Thanh into a leading aviation transit hub in Asia, ” said Mr. Canh.
The No. 1 Aviation Catering Service Investment and Business Project implemented by VACS is built on the E-09 land area of 30,646 m², with a total preliminary investment of about 687 billion VND. In the first phase, the factory has the capacity to provide 20,000 meals/day and will be expanded to 40,000 meals/day according to the development progress of Long Thanh airport.

Vietnam Airlines Deputy General Director Le Duc Canh pledged to focus all resources to quickly and promptly implement projects at Long Thanh airport.
The food processing and preservation line is designed according to international standards, meeting the strict standards of 5-star airlines, integrating quality management systems and food hygiene and safety that meet international standards such as ISO 45001:2018, 22000:2018, 9001:2015...
In particular, VACS will have a HALAL kitchen area with a completely closed and separate process, up to 1,672 m² wide. In addition to serving Vietnam Airlines, VACS also aims to serve domestic and international airlines operating at Long Thanh airport, which is expected to soon become an international transit hub in the Asia region.
Meanwhile, the No. 1 aircraft maintenance service construction and business investment project implemented by VAECO on land plot E-01, with an area of 45,525 m², has a total investment of phase 1 of more than 1,100 billion VND.
This is an integrated aviation engineering complex, including a hangar, the ability to simultaneously maintain 2 wide-body aircraft (Code E) and 2 narrow-body aircraft (Code C), along with equipment workshops, technical areas, material warehouses and auxiliary systems.
Minimum designed maintenance capacity is 250,000 Mhrs/year, expected to serve 120-150 aircraft maintenance trips/year.

Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam speaking at the event.
The project is expected to be completed at the same time as Long Thanh airport goes into commercial operation. At that time, this will be one of the most modern aviation technical centers in Vietnam, providing line maintenance and base maintenance services for aircraft such as Airbus A320, A321, A350 or Boeing 787.
Previously, VIAGS Ground Services Company, another unit of Vietnam Airlines, implemented a project to repair and maintain ground vehicles and equipment in Long Thanh. The simultaneous implementation of key service projects demonstrates Vietnam Airlines' methodical and comprehensive investment orientation in the service ecosystem at the future strategic base airport, in addition to existing centers such as Noi Bai, Da Nang and Tan Son Nhat.
It is known that VACS and VAECO are two of the core units of Vietnam Airlines, accompanying each other throughout the journey of modernizing the Vietnamese aviation industry.
Established in 1993, VACS is currently the leading airline catering provider in Vietnam, operating and providing meals at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Phu Quoc and soon Long Thanh, serving up to 10 million meals per year. VACS is a trusted partner of more than 58 international airlines and businesses, thanks to its stable quality and high responsiveness.
VAECO, established in 2006 on the basis of A75 and A76 aircraft maintenance and repair enterprises, has 50 years of experience in the field of aircraft repair. With a wide technical maintenance network at key airports across the country and achieving strict certifications from the US and Europe, VAECO not only ensures the safety of Vietnam Airlines' fleet but also gradually builds capacity towards the goal of becoming the leading MRO (maintenance - repair - overhaul) center in the region.
