“Without ChatGPT, it's like a fish out of a pond”
QD (21 years old), a student in Hanoi , was still in shock when recounting the moment on the afternoon of June 10, which according to him, "felt like being abandoned by his lover".
“I was typing in the prompt when suddenly ChatGPT froze and spun around. At first I thought the network was weak and couldn’t be reloaded. When I was browsing Facebook, I realized I wasn’t the only one left out,” D. recounted.
And that's when all the "sprint" plans for homework that D. carefully calculated started to fall apart.
For tasks like brainstorming, analyzing, writing rough drafts, and then revising, D. is used to entering commands into ChatGPT, waiting a few minutes to have a good draft to edit and submit on time.

A few years ago, for QD, skills such as searching for information, coming up with ideas, writing articles, then editing and proofreading used to be familiar and quite easy. But now they have become difficult and a torture.
“Without ChatGPT, I am like a fish pulled out of the pond, without a life preserver,” QD said helplessly.
According to D, he had to "rack his brain" to write each letter, each word in a blank state and under deadline pressure.
“Good ideas cannot just come out of nowhere like my assistant would do for me. Before I could do the test, it was like someone had gone ahead to clear the way. Yesterday, I had to grope for each word myself,” D. admitted.
In desperation, D. turned to a variety of other AI tools in the hope of finding a more viable solution. However, none of them met his expectations.

“I have not received comprehensive and systematic training on those tools. The way they express ideas is fragmented and not convincing enough to be applied immediately to real work,” D. shared.
As a student, he had considered many times to temporarily remove ChatGPT from his list of study support tools.
This male student wants to practice his independent thinking ability in the writing process, instead of just relying on editing what this AI tool suggests.
“I never expected that the plan would be carried out reluctantly and passively in this dire situation,” D. said helplessly.
Group meeting "frozen" because there is no ChatGPT
Also on the afternoon of June 10, the regular marketing meeting of Ms. MA's group (27 years old, Hanoi), currently a freelancer and owner of a small coffee shop in Hanoi, took place in a funny situation due to the sudden "disappearance" of ChatGPT.
At first, everything was still following the familiar script. The team had prepared the main topics for the new month's content plan.
As for finding detailed ideas, coming up with captions, or creating viral content, it's almost entirely left to ChatGPT, the AI tool that has become the team's "favorite assistant" for many months.
“I was typing in the prompt normally, when suddenly ChatGPT froze like a statue. It wasn’t until I scrolled through Facebook and saw everyone posting that I realized ChatGPT was down globally,” Ms. MA recounted.

The unexpected incident left the whole team in a state of… suspension, no one knew what to do next. The content plan, which had been built with AI support, suddenly disappeared, leaving everyone looking at each other helplessly.
“Normally everything is smooth. Just type a few lines, ChatGPT will suggest a series of caption ideas, post content. Sometimes I only need 1-2 working sessions a month to finish the content plan. Now suddenly I have to brainstorm from scratch, it's so frustrating,” Ms. MA shared.
With the “AI friend” temporarily down, the group decided to end the meeting early.
“The group decided to wait until ChatGPT is back up and running tomorrow and then continue. Sitting around thinking, “I’ll do something else more efficiently,” Ms. MA laughed helplessly.
According to MA, ChatGPT accounts for nearly 80% of the content creation workload for social media cafes.
“Thanks to ChatGPT, my work has become much easier. One day, in just one morning, I finished planning my entire month’s worth of posts. With just a few commands, I can produce 5-6 posts in less than an hour,” she said.

Recently, her team has also started to exploit the AI meme creation segment - a new direction to help posts on the shop's fanpage become more fun, easier to go viral, attracting more interactions from young customers.
When asked why she didn't try switching to other AI tools when ChatGPT was down, Ms. MA explained: "I bought the ChatGPT premium package a long time ago, and I'm used to working with it. The few times I tried other tools, I found the content was still a bit dry, and the ideas weren't really "wow" as I expected."
For many young people like Ms. MA, ChatGPT has almost become a “virtual colleague” accompanying them in their daily work. Therefore, the global crash yesterday afternoon was like a “sudden break”, leaving many people struggling in the middle of the work cycle that they were used to having AI as a powerful support.
Warning about the habit of "outsourcing" to ChatGPT
The ChatGPT incident that caused a global outage for several hours left many young people confused about how to handle jobs that they had almost completely entrusted to AI for a long time.
Nguyen Viet Hung, CEO of an AI software development company in Hanoi, said: “I am not surprised that many young people feel confused about this incident. In fact, many people have let AI do almost all the work that they used to do themselves.”
Because according to him, in recent years, AI has been deeply applied to the work and study processes of many young people, from writing to making presentation slides. Everything can be created with just a few lines of code.
"AI helps you save a lot of time, but it also comes with the habit of relying on others. Thinking and implementing ideas from scratch by yourself gradually becomes strange to some people," Mr. Hung emphasized.
According to Mr. Hung, the most attractive point of AI today lies in its ability to shorten the process: From idea generation, content implementation to final editing, all can be done in just a few minutes.

That habit makes some young people gradually lose their "self-reliance" skills, especially in creative jobs such as writing, planning, presenting or analyzing data.
"Many content teams can now plan a month's worth of content in just half a morning, or individuals can create a dozen-page report in just one evening, thanks to AI suggesting outlines and implementing each part," Mr. Hung cited.
According to the CEO, the worrying thing is not the technology itself, but the usage habits: “AI is not at fault. It only does what users ask. But the fact that users are increasingly dependent without practicing basic skills, such as logical thinking, analysis, and content creation, is something that can easily create a dangerous gap.”
