'The Contract of Selling Strawberries' starring Lam Thanh My attends Busan Film Festival

The film 'The Contract to Sell Strawberry' starring Lam Thanh My will participate in the Midnight Passion category of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), taking place from September 17 to 26.

This is the first time a Vietnamese film has been included in this category, marking an important milestone in the journey to affirm the position of Vietnamese films on the map of Asian and international cinema. The contract to sell strawberries brings together the cast: People's Artist Trung Anh, People's Artist Minh Chau, Lam Thanh My, Huu Vi, Lanh Thanh, Phuong Tra My, Le Tuyet Anh...

BIFF is in the top 5 prestigious film festivals in the world , attracting hundreds of Asian and international works, and is also a launching pad for many Vietnamese films to be noticed on the global cinema map. Previously, Rom won the New Currents award at BIFF 2019, Memento Mori: Earth is the only representative of Vietnam selected in the same category in 2022. The presence of Khe uoc ban dau at BIFF 2025 marks a new step forward, when for the first time a Vietnamese film appeared in the Midnight Passion category - one of the categories that attracts the most audiences at BIFF, focusing on introducing films with a fast pace, high drama, causing strong visual and emotional obsession.

Over the years, the Midnight Passion category has introduced notable films such as The Wailing (2016), Blair Witch (2016), The Girl with All the Gifts (2016), Halloween (2018), The House That Jack Built (2018), Arctic (2018),... before becoming box office phenomena, highly appreciated by critics.

Director Le Van Kiet said: "We not only want to make a film to stimulate fear, but also hope that when watching, the audience will feel the depth of culture, faith and the tragedies that people have to face when that faith is challenged. The fact that The Bride Contract is participating in Midnight Passion at BIFF this time is a great encouragement."

In parallel with its participation at BIFF, Strawberry Contract will also be commercially released in 22 countries, including Korea - a market known for its strictness with the horror genre.

The Bride-Sell Contract and the Mysteries Surrounding the Bride's Life

Inspired by the novel of the same name by writer Thuc Linh, Khe uoc ban dau is set in a historical setting instead of the final stage of the feudal regime as in the literary work. The film, directed by Le Van Kiet, revolves around Nhai (played by Lam Thanh My) - a young bride who has just married into the Vu family, and then accidentally gets caught up in a horrifying "contract".
