Survey of raw material areas: Paving the way for Dam Rong agricultural products to reach further

DNVN – Right after two key programs on developing agricultural product brands and digital transformation for Dam Rong farmers, a working delegation including leaders of Vietnam Business Magazine, experts and businesses directly “rolled up their pants and waded into the fields”, went to the gardens, climbed the hills to survey the actual agricultural material area of ​​Dam Rong.

Within the framework of the workshop - training "Products with established certification marks: Brand positioning - Market expansion" in Dam Rong district (Lam Dong), under the Science and Technology Project "Promoting products of Dam Rong district with established certification marks", the working group of the organizing committee had a field survey of the raw material area.

From the winding roads of Ro Men commune to the green durian hills in Da Tong, Lieng Sronh… the group not only observed but also listened, asked questions, compared each fruit, each variety, each planting – harvesting – packaging process. They learned not only about productivity and selling price, but also the story behind each tree, each household, each cooperative.

The first stop was the honey pineapple garden of Mr. Nguyen Minh Thang - Head of the Ro Men Pineapple Cooperative, which is considered the "pineapple capital" of Dam Rong district. "This land used to grow cashews, with low productivity. People switched to honey pineapple, which is easy to care for, low cost, and higher profit. Each hectare can yield 15-18 tons, making a profit of 150 million VND is normal," Mr. Thang shared.

Also during the trip, the delegation directly surveyed a number of durian gardens in Ro Men, Da Tong, Lieng Sronh communes... which were full of fruit, directly visited and connected with garden owners to learn about productivity, quality, and application of technology in planting and caring for durian...

Both honey pineapple and Dam Rong durian products are considered to have great potential. But more than quality, what surprised delegates and businesses was the willingness of growers: they not only grow well, but also want to follow the right process, standards and market requirements.

Dr. Duong Kim Lien - Director of the Institute for Business Innovation and Support (IBIA), said, I am impressed that the people of Dam Rong are not afraid of innovation. Many gardens have electronic diaries, QR codes, and agricultural products have certified logos and labels. The problem now is connection, there must be a reputable focal enterprise with clear commitments, stable quality control to expand the market, so that people can confidently develop production.

Ms. Le Thi Thu Hau - Director of Hieu Linh Agricultural Cooperative Co., Ltd. (Da Lat City), a business participating in the survey and product consumption connection delegation, said that the business is very interested in honey pineapple products and Tay Dam Rong rice paper. After the survey trip, she and local production units will sit down together to discuss specific cooperation plans.

“Dam Rong honey pineapple is very delicious, has a brand name, can be processed into many attractive dishes to increase its value and can be preserved for a long time to avoid spoilage when ripe. Tay village rice paper from Dam Rong can be processed from organic vegetable and fruit powders to create eye-catching colors and good for health… Those are the solutions we can cooperate to develop together with the people here”, Ms. Hau shared.

The fresh, delicious, flavorful honey pineapples of Dam Rong can also be processed into many dishes and drinks to enhance the product's value.

The survey of the pineapple and durian growing areas did not last many hours, but could be a turning point for many years. It opened up the belief in a practical agricultural direction, where farmers own the crops, businesses understand the source of goods and the state plays the role of midwife for the connection.

The trip was also the clearest demonstration of the philosophy that had been raised in the two previous programs: a brand is not a name but a commitment, a quality, a transparency from the root. And to have a real brand, you have to step out of the hall, touch the soil, and talk to each farmer.
