On July 29, witnessed by the wife of General Secretary Ngo Phuong Ly and the Vietnamese delegation, Ho Chi Minh Square was officially inaugurated in Vyborg district, St. Petersburg city.
The event took place in the year the two countries celebrated the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations in one of the most vibrant cities in the Russian Federation with cooperative and twinned relations with Vietnam.
According to VNA correspondent in Russia, at the ceremony, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly and other delegates were moved to recall the national liberation hero, outstanding cultural figure of Vietnam, and great friend of the Russian people.
Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly and Governor Aleksandr Beglov solemnly opened the red cloth on the signboard “Ho Chi Minh Square.”
In addition, next to the square is a golden plaque engraved with the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh - the founder of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945, a national liberation hero and an outstanding cultural celebrity recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In an emotional atmosphere, the First Lady, along with Vietnamese and Russian delegates, overseas Vietnamese and many Russian friends, took turns offering flowers to the monument, expressing their respect to President Ho Chi Minh.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Aleksandr Beglov emphasized that the Northern capital of Russia and Vietnam are not only connected by economic relations but also by strong friendship, which is also the direction that Russian President Vladimir Putin and General Secretary To Lam are very interested in.
Five years ago, Vietnam became the first country that St. Petersburg placed on the priority list of its foreign policy. The inauguration of Ho Chi Minh Square in Russia's second largest city is a symbol of the legacy in developing cooperation and strengthening brotherly friendship.
The Square named after Him in St. Petersburg, according to him, is not only a reminder of the historical connection between the two countries but also a new driving force for cooperation between the two sides in the coming time.
For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi expressed his emotion and honor to attend the inauguration ceremony of the square named after the beloved leader of the entire Vietnamese people, the first President Ho Chi Minh.
The Ambassador sincerely thanked the Governor and the city government for the decision to name the square after Uncle Ho and for organizing the inauguration ceremony to celebrate the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Ambassador emphasized that with the official inauguration of Ho Chi Minh Square, the city of Saint Petersburg has a complex about the great leader of Vietnam, including a monument and square named after Uncle Ho, a street named after Ho Chi Minh since 1978 and a museum space about the Vietnamese leader at High School No. 488 near the square.
According to Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi, these things show the deep love and respect of Russian friends for President Ho Chi Minh as well as the Russian side's appreciation for the traditional friendship between the two peoples.
Head of the St. Petersburg Legislature Aleksandr Belsky added that President Ho Chi Minh was not only the one who laid a solid foundation for the relationship between early Russia and Vietnam.
That relationship continues to be strengthened today. In St. Petersburg, there is a street named after him, a monument to Ho Chi Minh, and now the city has a square named after him. The path of friendship between the two peoples has always been developed.
After the inauguration ceremony, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly visited High School No. 488, which has the most distinct Ho Chi Minh space and is always a "red" address to welcome Vietnamese delegations.
Here, the Lady was welcomed with sincere feelings through "purely Vietnamese" performances by the school's students: reciting poems "My homeland Vietnam", "Our village's rice grains" in Vietnamese, and dancing with lotus flowers.
The children also personally introduced to the Lady each artifact in the museum space.
The Lady respectfully presented the school with a statue of President Ho Chi Minh, the book “Ho Chi Minh with Vietnam-Russia friendship,” a model of the simple stilt house where Uncle Ho lived and worked, and gave the students badges with Uncle Ho’s image, reminding them to always be good and study well.
As for the teachers of the school, she hopes that the teaching staff here will always have good health, continue to contribute to the cause of educating people, and contribute to strengthening the friendship between the people of the two countries and the two nations.
The Lady also hopes that in the future there will be a school named after him in the city where beloved Uncle Ho first set foot in Soviet Russia in 1923 on his journey to find a way to save the country.
On the same day, July 29, the Vietnamese community in St. Petersburg received more good news when the Vietnamese Association was officially registered as a legal entity in the northern capital.
The official certificate awarding ceremony took place at the House of Ethnicities. This event gave the Association official status, consolidating its role in the life of the city.
After the ceremony, the delegates also signed a cooperation agreement. This document defines the main directions of activities to support Vietnamese citizens, preserve cultural identity and develop relations between St. Petersburg and Vietnam./.
