Khanh Hoa: Timely emergency care for fishermen with appendicitis at sea

Fisherman Tran Cong Nhanh suffered from appendicitis while fishing at sea and was given emergency treatment and had his appendix removed by doctors at Truong Sa Town Medical Center, Truong Sa District, Khanh Hoa Province.

On the afternoon of June 8, the Command of Naval Region 4 announced that on the night of June 7, a fisherman from Quang Nam province who suffered from acute appendicitis while fishing at sea was received by military doctors at the Truong Sa Town Medical Center, Truong Sa District, Khanh Hoa Province and given emergency treatment, promptly removing his appendix. He is now out of danger.

Previously, while working on fishing boat QNa 94952TS, fisherman Tran Cong Nhanh (50 years old, residing in Binh Minh commune, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province) fell ill with the following symptoms: Right iliac fossa abdominal pain, mild fever.

At 0:10 a.m. on June 7, Mr. Nhanh was taken by a fishing boat to Thuyen Chai Island for first aid, then transferred to Truong Sa Island at 8:00 p.m. the same day.

When admitted to the hospital on Truong Sa island, the patient was conscious, had severe abdominal pain, and mild abdominal distension.

Through examination, testing and online consultation with Military Hospital 175 (Ho Chi Minh City), doctors diagnosed the patient with acute appendicitis at the 21st hour, with a risk of peritonitis complications.

Doctors immediately administered IV fluids, antibiotics, and performed surgery to remove Mr. Nhanh's appendix.

After surgery, Mr. Nhanh's health gradually stabilized, but he was ordered to stay on Truong Sa island for a while longer to continue monitoring, treatment, and be ready to handle any unusual developments.

Recently, Truong Sa Town Medical Center has received and treated many cases of fishermen who, while fishing in Truong Sa fishing grounds, suddenly fell ill or had work accidents or suffered from decompression sickness due to deep diving.

Specifically, on June 6, military doctors on the island successfully treated patient Vo Sy Danh (born in 1981, a crew member on fishing boat QNa 91577-TS of Quang Nam province) with ureteral stones, grade 1 renal pelvis dilation and urinary tract infection.

Previously, on May 25, Truong Sa Town Medical Center provided emergency care and effective treatment for patient Vo Tan Nuoc (born in 1969, a crew member on fishing boat BD 98967-TS of Binh Dinh province) with a diagnosis of left renal colic, grade 2 renal pelvis dilation, and urinary tract infection./.
