Since 1925, Thanh Nien Newspaper, founded by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, published its first issue, marking the birth of Vietnam's revolutionary press. Up to now, Vietnam's Revolutionary Press has gone through a 100-year journey full of hardships but with great pride, constantly growing and developing.
An important contribution to that journey is the role of leading, orienting and protecting the team of journalists of the Vietnam Journalists Association .
Companion of revolutionary journalism
On April 21, 1950 - in Roong Khoa hamlet, Diem Mac commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen province, for the first time under the direction of the Party and Uncle Ho, journalists united and gathered under one organization - the Association of Vietnamese Journalists (the predecessor of the Vietnam Journalists Association).
The establishment of the Association demonstrated the solidarity and unity in using the power of ideals and the dedication of the working class in fighting together under the leadership of the Party to gain independence, freedom and national unification.
Along with the continuous growth of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press in general, the Vietnam Journalists Association is always loyal to its purpose and objectives of representing the ownership, aspirations and legitimate interests of Vietnamese journalists, contributing to building the Vietnamese press to truly be the voice of the Party, the State and the forum of the people.
During the period of building socialism in the North and fighting for national reunification, and after the country was completely liberated, the Vietnam Journalists Association has continuously grown, making important contributions to the work of fostering professional skills, improving professional qualifications and especially political qualities for journalists nationwide.
In recent times, the Association at all levels from the central to local levels has continued to promote the tradition of solidarity, proactiveness and creativity, promoting the role of the leader in carrying out the political tasks of the unit, creating positive changes in the activities of the Association; regularly grasping the situation and promptly intervening to protect the legitimate and legal practice rights of reporters, members and journalists.
At regular press conferences and press information meetings, the Central Association and the Provincial and Municipal Journalists Associations proactively requested competent authorities to promptly provide information to reporters and strictly implement the Regulations on speaking and providing information to the press.
In cases of obstruction of journalists' right to practice, the Association's organizations proactively grasp and send written requests to the authorities to promptly investigate and handle them in accordance with the provisions of law.
The team of journalists constantly study, improve their political qualities, professional qualifications, uphold professional ethics, have a spirit of dedication and commitment for the benefit of the country and people; pioneer in the fight against negativity, corruption, waste, in difficult and dangerous circumstances.
This effort has ensured the successful completion of important political tasks, while providing practical support to members and all levels of the association in overcoming challenges, improving work efficiency and affirming the increasingly solid position of Vietnamese journalists in society.
In the new context, the programs, contents and methods of training and fostering journalism skills are improved, diversified and enhanced in quality, new classes are organized to keep up with changing trends in domestic and international journalism; the courses focus on 3 main areas: skills for journalism types; specialized, in-depth and lecturer training.
The classes have kept up with changing trends in world journalism, focusing on new areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital content management, anti-fake news skills, information security and data privacy.
Commenting on the development of revolutionary journalism in general and the Vietnam Journalists Association in particular in recent times, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Phan Xuan Thuy said: The team of journalists has not only increased rapidly in number but also their political mettle, professional capacity, expertise, and ability to apply science and technology have been increasingly improved.
The quality of press products is constantly improved, making strong progress, closely following modern communication trends of international press.
This is a great source of pride for the Vietnamese revolutionary press in its 100 years of development and growth, and a recognition of the great efforts and contributions of the Vietnam Journalists Association over the past 75 years.

Towards modern - humane - professional journalism
The country is in an important stage to firmly step into the era of strong development with revolutionary and turning point changes.
For journalists and the Vietnam Journalists Association, 2025 is also the year to summarize the Resolution of the 11th Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association for the 2020-2025 term and especially to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).
This requires the Vietnam Journalists Association and Vietnamese journalists to constantly strive to find a new direction for Revolutionary Press when entering the 100-year milestone, meeting the country's demands in the new development stage, as requested by General Secretary To Lam at the 9th National Press Awards Ceremony on Party Building in 2024: "The new era also sets new and higher requirements for Revolutionary Press, requiring the press to develop accordingly, grow together with the nation, and be worthy of professional, humane, and modern journalism."
Assigning tasks to the Vietnam Journalists Association at the 75th anniversary celebration, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Phan Xuan Thuy reminded the Vietnam Journalists Association to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the policy of arranging, streamlining and merging socio-political organizations and mass associations assigned by the Party and State.
Accordingly, all levels of the Journalists Association operating within the framework of the Vietnam Fatherland Front are responsible for organizing activities in accordance with the policy of "refined, compact, strong, effective and efficient."
Along with that, it is necessary to promote the dissemination, information and propaganda work to create high unity and great determination among cadres, party members and people in implementing the arrangement and streamlining of the political system's apparatus.
Information and propaganda contribute to thoroughly understanding, raising awareness, creating consensus, support and high unity with the viewpoints, policies and implementation methods of the Party and State on this content of special importance.
Determining the workload from now until the end of the year, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi said: In the coming time, the Association at all levels from the central to local levels will enter a busy cycle of work.
Important tasks must be put into "sprint" mode, focusing on developing a project to organize the 12th National Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association; streamlining the apparatus according to Resolution 18; at the same time continuing to implement professional training and ethics training for members, promoting foreign affairs activities, enhancing the Association's reputation in the international arena, especially in the ASEAN Community...
At the same time, continue to promote the contents of building a clean and strong organization, operating according to regulations to effectively implement Directive 43-CT/TW dated April 8, 2020 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over the activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association; strengthen the direction, urging and inspection of the implementation of the Association's Charter and the entire term's Work Program; continue to promote the emulation movement "Building a cultural environment in press agencies"; strengthen the management of members who are reporters of press agencies residing in localities; promote propaganda, dissemination and inspection of the implementation of 10 articles of the Code of Professional Ethics for Vietnamese Journalists, the Code of Conduct for Vietnamese Journalists on Social Networks; enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the Council for Handling Violations of the Code of Professional Ethics for Vietnamese Journalists; focus on political training, professional expertise and professional ethics; foster knowledge, application skills, and update digital technology in journalism activities, from production, distribution to publishing digital content, improving the quality, efficiency, and competitiveness of journalism in the digital age./.
