Scarce supply, sand and stone prices "anchor" high

Many contractors have difficulty finding sources of construction stone.

According to records, in recent days, the prices of construction materials in Tien Giang province such as sand, stone, etc. are at high levels. Limited supply means that even though it is the low season of construction, the prices of sand and stone are still high.

According to the owner of Nhat Phat Construction Materials Facility (Nhi Binh Commune, Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province), due to the low construction season, the supply of construction stone has become more "comfortable" in recent days. However, the supply of this item is still limited, and the price is still "anchored" as high as at its peak. Specifically, the facility sells 1x2 stone for about 700,000 VND/ ^m3 , 0x4 stone for 440,000 VND/ ^m3 . This price has increased by about 200,000 VND/ ^m3 compared to the beginning of the year.

The price of construction and filling sand, although stable, is still high. Specifically, construction sand costs 380,000 VND/ ^m3 , filling sand costs 260,000 VND/ ^m3 . "Currently, the supply of sand is still difficult, but not as scarce as stone. Due to high prices and the peak of the construction season, people's demand for materials is not high" - the owner of Nhat Phat Construction Materials Facility added.

In My Tho City, in the midst of general difficulties, the prices of sand and construction stone are also very high at this time. Mr. Tran Van Cuong, Director of Tu Loi Construction Service Trading Company Limited (Tan My Chanh Commune, My Tho City) said that the supply of construction stone is still difficult. Enterprises can still import goods, but the prices are still very high. Compared to the beginning of the year, the prices of all kinds of stone have increased by about 30%. Specifically, enterprises sell all kinds of construction stone for 500,000 - 550,000 VND/ ^m3 .

As for the source of construction sand, the company imports it from Cambodia so the price is still stable. Accordingly, the price of construction sand fluctuates from 300,000 - 350,000 VND/ ^m3 , and the price of filling sand is about 200,000 VND/ ^m3 . "Currently, because it is the low season of construction, the source of stone is still available, but the price has not cooled down. This year, the demand for construction among people is very low because the economy is still difficult" - Mr. Cuong said.

With the supply of sand and soil scarce and prices rising, contractors are having difficulty implementing projects, especially transportation works.

Stone prices are high and are scarce.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Director of TICCO Tan Phuoc Concrete Company Limited, currently, the source of stone for concrete production is still scarce. The price has nearly doubled compared to before. Currently, the company imports 1x2 stone to produce concrete, structures... at a price of about 600,000 VND/ ^m3 . In particular, although the source of sand is high, the price has not increased.

“Because we have signed contracts with customers in advance, the price of materials has increased, and the company is also facing difficulties. The supply is scarce, so sometimes the company also has a shortage in production. The price of construction materials has increased, but the company can only adjust a part of the selling price of the products, not all of them,” Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung added.

According to leaders of enterprises specializing in the construction of traffic and irrigation works in My Tho City, the supply of materials is a common difficulty for construction contractors today. Currently, the projects that enterprises are implementing require a large amount of sand and stone. Enterprises are not proactive in the supply because these items are scarce. To have sand and stone for construction, they have to buy at high prices, but sometimes the supply is still very slow, so it is very difficult.

According to the leader of PH Construction Trading and Service Company Limited (Go Cong Tay district), the supply of construction stone is still facing difficulties. The company is lacking resources to implement the construction of the bid projects. Currently, the company imports road stone at a price of about 450,000 VND/ ^m3 , construction stone at about 550,000 VND/ ^m3 . The company mainly imports stone from Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces.

“Stone supply is very limited. Before, we imported about 1,000 ^m3 per day, but now it is only 50-100 ^m3 . Therefore, the implementation of projects is facing difficulties. Not only stone, sand supply is also in short supply, but prices have not increased. On average, it takes about 10 days to half a month for a company to get 1 ship of sand” - the leader of PH Construction Trading Service Co., Ltd. shared.

According to the representative of TT Construction Trading Company Limited (Chau Thanh district), currently, it takes about half a month for the company to get 1 ship of stone with about 400 - 500 ^m3 . The ship must go to the mine in Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces to register and wait for its turn to get stone. Stone 0x4 at the mine costs 348,000 VND/ ^m3 , stone 1x2 costs about 400,000 VND/ ^m3 , when arriving in Tien Giang, the price of stone increases by about 610,000 VND/ ^m3 . With this stone price increased by about 100,000 VND/ ^m3 compared to the beginning of the year, contractors still have difficulty finding stone sources.

In reality, facing difficulties in the supply of sand and stone, many contractors and businesses are struggling to ensure the progress of completing projects.
