Join hands to care for victims of Agent Orange

The war has long gone, but time has not been able to heal the wounds of victims affected by Agent Orange/dioxin, because the consequences of this toxic chemical are passed down through many generations. Sympathizing and sharing with the less fortunate, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin (VAVA) of Tien Giang province always plays the role of a “bridge”, adding strength to help VAVA overcome difficulties and rise up in life.

Tien Giang province currently has thousands of poor and seriously ill victims of Agent Orange, who face the pain of Agent Orange every day and are in great need of the community and society to share. To date, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange at all levels in the province has conducted surveys of 11,493 victims of Agent Orange; of which, 1,693 victims are people with meritorious services and 9,800 victims are civilians.

Agent Orange victims not only suffer physical pain but also have to endure isolation from the community. There are babies born without knowing how to smile, not knowing how to call their parents’ names; there are young people who cannot walk by themselves, cannot go to school like other normal people. Their lives are completely dependent on their relatives, becoming a burden to their families and society.

As a social-charitable organization, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Tien Giang province has become an important "bridge" in the humanitarian journey, caring for and helping Victims of Agent Orange overcome difficulties, overcome diseases, and rise up in life. With the motto "Do not leave Victims of Agent Orange behind", the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Tien Giang province has effectively implemented many activities to care for Victims of Agent Orange and people with disabilities and serious illnesses. The main programs of the Association include: Mobilizing the construction of houses of gratitude and charity; supporting livelihoods for Victims of Agent Orange and poor households; awarding scholarships to help Victims of Agent Orange go to school; health care programs for Victims of Agent Orange, etc.

The Provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange mobilized organizations to award scholarships and gifts to seriously ill and orphaned Victims of Agent Orange.

The activities to care for victims of Agent Orange of Tien Giang Province have received the support and cooperation of all levels of government, the Fatherland Front, unions and socio -political organizations of Tien Giang Province, as well as units, enterprises, organizations and individuals inside and outside the province. The success of the activities is the practicality and effectiveness for each case of victims of Agent Orange that is supported. Each level of the Provincial Association has a way to organize support activities that are appropriate and close to the circumstances of the victims of Agent Orange. Accordingly, in the first 6 months of 2025, the Provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange at all levels focused on plans to mobilize and present 23,791 gifts; 25 cash packages; built 6 houses; supported 1 ton of rice... for victims of Agent Orange in especially difficult circumstances and with serious illnesses.

Chairwoman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Tien Giang Province, Tran Thi Quy Mao, shared: “Through activities to care for Victims of Agent Orange, we hope to spread the message that “Each citizen is an extension of compassion. Every concern, no matter how small, contributes to supporting the unfortunate.”

In addition, the provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange at all levels not only focuses on taking care of the victims' lives, but also actively propagates and mobilizes cadres and members to well implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and the Association's tasks. Propagating about the Agent Orange disaster, promoting the role of all levels, sectors and all classes of people in joining hands to ease the pain of Agent Orange; promptly grasping the thoughts and protecting the rights of Victims of Agent Orange. The Association also directs grassroots Associations to maintain good visits to sick victims and help each other in difficult times.

In addition, the Provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange has effectively implemented policies for Victims of Agent Orange, especially seriously ill children and orphans. The Association continues to promote the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle; strengthen propaganda and mobilize the whole society to promote the spirit of "mutual love and support" to join hands to help Victims of Agent Orange. From there, spread love, connect the community to participate in caring for, create favorable conditions for Victims of Agent Orange to overcome difficulties and integrate into society.
