Opening of Vietnam Film Week 2025 in Greece

On the evening of May 12, the 2025 Vietnamese Film Week in Greece officially opened in the capital Athens, with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Communist Party of Greece and Ambassadors, representatives of embassies of various countries, Greek friends and overseas Vietnamese.

According to VNA correspondent in Southern Europe, the Film Week was organized by the Vietnamese Embassy on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Greece diplomatic relations, the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day and the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, in coordination with the Vietnam Film Institute under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hanoi Radio and Television Station and Greek partners New Star Art Cinema and Cine Vakoura.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Pham Thi Thu Huong said this was the first time Vietnam had organized a Film Week, introducing 9 films and documentaries to the Greek public.

Many films screened during this Film Week have won domestic and international awards, reflecting the history, culture, country and people of Vietnam.

Chosen to take place in the meaningful month of May, the 2025 Vietnam Film Week in Greece dedicated a special screening to honor President Ho Chi Minh on his birthday (May 19), with the film "Ho Chi Minh: Journey to create culture and peace."

In addition, the audience will watch the documentary "Peace Train" produced by Hanoi Radio and Television in April 2025, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, connecting the past with the present through the journey of young people, boarding the peace train, going to memory stations to listen to the aspirations of the country from the previous generation.

The feature film “Don’t Burn” was selected to be shown on the opening night in Athens with Greek and English subtitles, leaving many emotions in the audience on the premiere night.

The Vietnamese Film Week will help Greek audiences and international friends gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese cinema - a cinema rich in national cultural identity, with a spirit of the times and profound human values.

The film week will take place from May 12-20 in two major cities in Athens and Thessloniki, and will continue to be shown in several other Greek cities in 2025./.
