Iran launches heavy airstrikes on Israel after US attack

Daily Mail reported that on June 21, US President Donald Trump ordered an attack on three important nuclear facilities in Iran. Accordingly, six US B-2 stealth bombers dropped 12 bunker-busting bombs on the Fordow nuclear facility, 128 km south of Tehran.

Mr Trump announced that Iran's Fordow nuclear facility had been flattened. US submarines also launched 30 Tomahawk missiles, destroying two other Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz and Isfahan.

Iran's foreign minister condemned the attack as "extremely dangerous and illegal."

"This action is absurd and will have long-term consequences. Iran will take all measures to protect its sovereignty , interests and people," Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said.

Israel was hit by a barrage of missiles on the morning of June 22 as Iran launched a retaliatory attack. Buildings in Tel Aviv were significantly damaged and several people were reported injured.

Just 48 hours earlier, President Trump had said he would make a decision on whether to send US bombers to help Israel destroy Iran's nuclear program "within two weeks" because there was still a chance for a diplomatic solution.

But things changed very quickly when Mr. Trump believed that Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would never voluntarily give up his goal of developing a nuclear bomb.
