Intel affirms that Vietnam is an important part of the ecosystem

On November 7, Reuters reported that right after President Joe Biden's visit, the US announced that Intel had decided to cancel its plan to expand chip production in Vietnam around July, although no specific reason was given.

Responding to Thanh Nien , Intel's media representative declined to comment on the content from Reuters, instead affirming: "Vietnam continues to be an important part of Intel's global manufacturing operations. We are pleased to support the development of Vietnam's large technology industry ecosystem and workforce over nearly two decades of operating here and we look forward to continuing to do so in the future."

Intel has been investing in Vietnam since 2006. By 2021, with a total investment of 1 billion USD, Intel became the first American company to build the world's largest chip assembly and testing factory in Vietnam.

2021 also marked Intel’s announcement of plans to increase its investment, with a scale increase of about 50% compared to the previous capital of 1 billion USD. Intel’s goal is to produce products related to 5G technology and core processors. This additional capital brings the group’s total investment capital in Vietnam to nearly 1.5 billion USD.

Currently, Intel's factory in Vietnam is one of the world's largest facilities specializing in chip assembly, packaging and testing.
