According to TechSpot , Intel is investigating reports that its high-end 13th and 14th generation CPUs are causing crashes in many games, especially titles developed with Unreal Engine. The issue has affected many users, leading many to return their CPUs.

Earlier this year, many Core i9-13900K and Core i7-14900K users were experiencing issues while playing games. Common errors included “Out of video memory” and games crashing for no apparent reason. More severe cases even caused the system to freeze completely and require a reboot.

Most of the issues seem to be related to Unreal Engine titles like Fortnite . In response, Unreal Engine developer Epic Games has advised users to adjust BIOS settings as a temporary fix. However, this solution doesn't always work and can cause other problems.

Additionally, some game developers have also offered their own advice to mitigate the issue on 13th and 14th Gen Intel CPUs. For example, Vermintide 2 and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide developer Fatshark has recommended users to reduce the performance core clock using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU).

In South Korea, about 10 users per day are reportedly swapping out 13th or 14th generation CPUs or pre-built PCs using these chips for AMD Ryzen processors in the same segment.

In response to user complaints, Intel has confirmed that it is investigating the issues and working with partners to find a solution. However, for now, clock-down, power/current limit, and voltage reduction for 13th and 14th Gen CPUs appear to be the only ways to temporarily resolve the game glitch.
