Late on August 22, the Indonesian volleyball fan community was bursting with joy after the U21 men's team had their first victory at the 2025 U21 Volleyball World Championship in China.

This victory also partly dispelled the sadness of volleyball fans in this country recently.

The young men under the guidance of coach Anwar Sadat made an impressive comeback to defeat Tunisia, thereby lighting up great hopes of reaching the round of 16.

U21 Indonesia showed an admirable fighting spirit. Despite losing the first set with a score of 22-25, they still came back strongly and won the next three sets in a row with the scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-19.

The 3-1 victory over the African representative brought Indonesia the first valuable 3 points.

This victory became even more meaningful when in the opening match the day before (August 21), U21 Indonesia suffered a 0-3 defeat against a very strong opponent, the current U21 World Cup runner-up, the Italian team.

With 3 points, U21 Indonesia is currently ranked fourth in Group D. Although having the same 3 points as Ukraine in third place, Indonesia is temporarily ranked behind due to inferior sub-index.

However, this position is enough for the "island country" team to have a chance to continue to the round of 16. Because according to the rules, the top four teams in each group will qualify for the next round.

Currently, two strong teams, Italy and France, are together dominating the top of Group D with 6 absolute points after two wins.

Indonesia’s next match will be a decisive clash with their direct rivals Ukraine tomorrow (August 23). A win will give Imam Ahfad Faisal and his teammates a great chance to move up to third place in the rankings.

Meanwhile, another representative of Southeast Asia, Thailand, has yet to find the joy of victory. After two matches, the Thai team has only 1 point and is ranked fifth in Group A.
