The call was made after two drone strikes targeted two transformer stations in the area on June 19 and 21, respectively.

In a statement on the IAEA website, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that households living in the town of Enerhodar, a few kilometers from the plant, were without electricity for 16 hours.

According to Mr. Grossi, UAV attacks on the plant and surrounding areas are becoming more frequent, contrary to safety regulations and specific principles that have been agreed, and stressed that "this must stop".

Meanwhile, the Zaporizhzhia plant management said the airstrikes destroyed a transformer station, damaged another and left many households without power for a period of time.

Some infrastructure, including transportation and printing facilities, was disrupted, but nuclear safety measures were fully maintained.

Zaporizhzhia is Europe's largest nuclear power plant, located in Ukraine, with a total capacity of 6 Gigawatts. Since the end of February 2022, the plant has been under Russian control.
