Diversify tourism products
In 2025, Van Don tourism will have a strong change when a series of new products, unique cultural festivals and modern infrastructure are put into operation. With the active participation of Quang Ninh province and Van Don district, tourism here is increasingly professional, rich and unique.
One of the most notable events was the Opening Ceremony of sightseeing tours on Bai Tu Long Bay, connecting from Ao Tien International Port to prominent tourist attractions in the middle of the bay. Accompanying that was the Conference on Tourism Development in Bai Tu Long Bay, Quang Ninh Province in 2025, affirming the locality's determination in building a sustainable and modern sea and island tourism brand.
In particular, the program "Van Don welcomes summer 2025" has become a highlight attracting visitors when organizing a series of vibrant cultural - sports - artistic activities, including the opening ceremony of the 2025 summer sea and island tourism season, turning Van Don into a summer entertainment center attracting tourists of all ages.
In 2025, Van Don tourism will witness the launch of many unique products, rich in experiences and imbued with local cultural identity. A typical example is the San Diu Ethnic Cultural and Tourism Village Experience tour in Binh Dan commune. Visitors will be immersed in the San Diu ethnic cultural space, enjoy traditional cuisine, learn about customs, sing Soong Co, folk dance and stay at homestays with strong local cultural imprints.
Another new option is the 3-day-2-night Heritage Journey tour connecting Ha Long Bay (Route 4) and Bai Tu Long Bay, combined with a visit to Ngoc Vung Island - a pristine pearl in the heart of the East Sea. Here, visitors can join the community eco-tour "A day as a fisherman", experiencing activities such as clam raking, fishing, snail catching, oyster catching, rice planting, potato planting... and sharing the daily life of the islanders, as well as learning about the long-standing cultural history of the island. Ms. Pham Thi Duong, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: This is the first time I have directly participated in activities such as clam raking, fishing, and snail catching with fishermen on the island, the feeling is extremely new and interesting. These experiences seem simple but help me understand more about the working life of coastal people. In particular, the peaceful scene of the sea in the early morning, the sound of waves and the cheerful laughter among the participants made me feel like I was slowing down and immersing myself in the real life of the island.
It is impossible not to mention the Sonasea Van Don Harbor City night market, where visitors can stroll in the bustling space, enjoy unique street food from three regions, shop for souvenirs, local specialties and participate in vibrant street art activities.
In addition, Van Don district also promotes the development of eco-tourism associated with agriculture through the Farm trip program to survey and build an experiential tour in Ha Long commune (expected to be held in the third quarter of 2025). Students and tourists will have the opportunity to directly grow vegetables, plant rice, cook rice, take care of livestock or experience the interesting and educational model of "students becoming soldiers".
Along with that, Van Don continues to promote the value of traditional cultural heritage through major festivals such as: Van Don Traditional Festival celebrating the 737th anniversary of Van Don victory; Van Don Orange Festival 2025 held in November in Van Yen commune, combining the promotion of agricultural specialties with special art and sports programs.
Island ecotourism destination
Not only stopping at the excitement and diversity of products, Van Don is gradually affirming its position as a high-quality sea and island eco-tourism center of the North. In the first 6 months of 2025, Van Don welcomed over 2.084 million tourists, including 1.932 million domestic visitors and 52,300 international visitors, with total revenue reaching 1,463 billion VND. With the advantage of rich natural resources, long coastline, clear blue water and diverse ecosystems, Van Don has become an ideal destination for those seeking peace, exploring pristine nature and high-class resorts.
The vision of sustainable tourism development in Van Don is closely linked to the strategy of nature conservation and promotion of local cultural identity. Community eco-tours such as “A day as a fisherman”, experiencing San Diu cultural village or Farm trip for students not only bring a new feeling but also contribute to raising awareness of the environment and local culture among tourists.
In parallel, thanks to the synchronous transportation network, visitors from Hanoi and northern provinces such as Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Lang Son, Bac Giang, etc. only need 1 to 3 hours by car to reach Van Don. Visitors from the Central and Southern regions can also easily access thanks to the aviation system with ticket prices of only about 1 million VND/way.
With its strategic location near China, along with the Van Don - Mong Cai expressway, Van Don has great potential to welcome international visitors by road. In addition, markets such as Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia are only a few hours flight from Van Don, creating favorable conditions for the development of international resort and marine ecological tourism products. It is forecasted that the number of visitors to Van Don will reach about 2.5 million by 2030 and 6-9.5 million by 2040, with the proportion of international visitors increasing. This not only opens up great opportunities for the tourism industry, but also creates a driving force for comprehensive economic development in the region.
From a relatively modest land on the tourism map, Van Don is gradually asserting its position as a leading marine ecological destination in the region. With thorough investment, sustainable development orientation and an increasingly attractive chain of products and events, Van Don promises to be an ideal destination for domestic and international tourists, not only in the summer of 2025 but also in the long-term journey of Vietnam's tourism industry.
