Mobilizing more than 400 people to build stone embankments to cope with storm No. 5

(Baohatinh.vn) - Before the forecast of very strong storm No. 5 with a complicated path, Dan Hai commune (Ha Tinh) mobilized the entire political system to proactively respond.

On August 23, following the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Dan Hai commune government held a meeting of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue to deploy proactive response plans for storm No. 5 that is likely to directly impact the area. Accordingly, the commune mobilized 3 excavators, 2 trucks and more than 400 people including the commune's shock troops, veterans, militiamen... to build a 200m embankment at the Hoi Thong sea dike in Tan Ninh Chau village, which is being eroded.

The embankment has been reinforced by forces using steel mesh and hundreds of sandbags and boulders to prevent rising sea levels from continuing to cause landslides.

Dan Hai Commune authorities also coordinated with Nghi Xuan Regional Electricity Management Team and youth union members to trim tree branches along the roads to cope with storm No. 5.

With the forecast of heavy rains from storm No. 5, the local authorities of Dan Hai commune have also directed villages at risk of flooding to conduct inspections and inform households living near the sea dike to proactively evacuate their vehicles and assets to a safe place, especially the elderly and vulnerable. Dan Hai commune authorities also coordinated with functional forces to call on boats to enter safe shelters, ensuring the safety of people and vehicles.

Before the forecast of storm No. 5, Dan Hai commune continued to promote propaganda work, grasp the situation of the storm to proactively respond promptly. Villages proactively planned to evacuate people from dangerous areas, especially coastal areas where there was a risk of insecurity. At the same time, ensure the safety of construction works, and mobilize forces to help households secure their houses and neighboring works to prevent big storms. In particular, proactively follow the "4 on-site" motto when incidents occur due to storms and rains, in order to minimize damage to people and property caused by natural disasters.
