Ms. Tran Thi Ut, Director of Ngoc Thanh Melon Cooperative in Phuoc Thanh Hamlet, Dong Phuoc Commune, Can Tho City, shared: "At first, it was just a farm with an area of about 2,000m2 . We saw that the melons were round and had jade-like veins. We had high hopes for success with this fruit, so we named the brand Ngoc Thanh, with the main direction being the production of organic melons."

Established in 2019, just 2 years later, the melon products of Ngoc Thanh Melon Farm achieved VietGAP certification and 3-star OCOP certification at the district level (Chau Thanh district, old Hau Giang province). In May 2023, Ngoc Thanh Melon Cooperative was established, with 9 members. By the end of 2024, the cooperative's organic melons had achieved 4-star OCOP standards at the provincial level, opening up a trend of high-tech agriculture in the locality.

On average, each month, the cooperative supplies the market with about 10 tons of standard organic melons.

In 2023, the Cooperative will coordinate with the Management Board of the Hau Giang High-Tech Agricultural Zone (formerly Hau Giang province) to implement the project "Building a model, transferring technology for producing melons in greenhouses and processing and diversifying products from melons". Engineer Tran Ky Nguyen, Project Manager, informed: "We have transferred to the Cooperative 2 technological processes for processing melon wine and dried melons. Step by step, help the Cooperative master the technology and develop products with a distinctive brand".

From this project, Ngoc Thanh Melon Cooperative invested in machinery and equipment to produce melon wine. Last June, the product was recognized by the OCOP Product Classification Council of Chau Thanh District, Hau Giang Province (old) as meeting 4-star OCOP standards. Ms. Tran Thi Ut expressed: "We wish to transfer the technology process of processing and preserving products such as pickled young melons and melon juice, to take advantage of the available raw materials at the Cooperative and create diverse products from melons."

In 2024, the cooperative will also put into operation homestays and build unique tourism products.

From the early days of starting a business full of worries, this cooperative has now formed a value chain from planting to processing, consuming and building a brand for products made from melons, starting a journey to reach far in the market.
