The UK Maritime Trade Enforcement Organisation said it had received reports of a missile being fired 90 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni port city of Aden.

“The captain reported a missile hitting the sea just 400 to 500 meters from the ship,” the statement said, adding that there were no injuries or damage. “This is the second tanker mistakenly targeted by the Houthis while it was carrying Russian oil,” Ambrey said.

Houthi militants, who control much of Yemen, have launched drone and missile attacks on Western commercial ships in the Red Sea since November 19, in protest at Israel's military operations in Gaza.

The Ambrey report assessed that the ship was mistakenly targeted based on outdated public information linking the vessel to the UK. “This vessel… is listed as having a UK link on public maritime databases,” the report said.

The US and UK carried out air and naval strikes on Houthi military targets in Yemen on Thursday night. Russia condemned the attacks and called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
