On the evening of August 3, the 2025 National U16, U18 3x3 Basketball Championship officially opened at Victory Square, Quy Nhon Ward, Gia Lai Province.
The tournament is organized by the Vietnam Sports Administration in coordination with the Gia Lai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Basketball Federation.
At the tournament, the teams compete in 4 categories, including: 3x3 U16 men's and women's; 3x3 U18 men's and women's; in a round-robin format.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of Gia Lai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that the 2025 National U16, U18 3x3 Basketball Championship is a tournament in the national competition system, aiming to promote the movement of practicing and competing in basketball among youth and students across the country.
At the same time, it helps Vietnamese basketball integrate with the common development in the regional and continental arenas.
For the second time, Quy Nhon has been honored to be chosen to host the tournament, so Deputy Director Bui Trung Hieu hopes that the tournament will continue to attract more attention and encouragement from the media and a large audience of fans.
In recent times, Vietnamese basketball has changed dramatically. To achieve the current achievements and influence, the Vietnam Basketball Federation has proactively seized the opportunity from the attention of sports managers and business organizations to urgently plan and find its own direction without being too dependent on state funding.
Along with operating and organizing the Vietnamese professional basketball tournament for many years, the Vietnam Basketball Federation always aims to promote the development of community basketball, according to the orientation of Vietnam's sports mission.
Vietnamese basketball shows great potential when it receives the attention of a large number of fans, especially young people.
Sharing about the basketball training movement in the locality, Mr. Bui Trung Hieu said that in the province, basketball is considered to be "born later" than other sports.
However, with the advantage of helping to train physical strength, develop height... basketball is increasingly attracting young people to practice. Many clubs are established from schools, groups... many grassroots tournaments are organized systematically and professionally, contributing to the development of this sport more widely.
Although there are still many difficulties in terms of facilities and equipment, with the attention and support of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, the Vietnam Basketball Federation, and the cooperation of coordinating units, Gia Lai province is honored to welcome football teams/clubs to compete in this tournament.
Besides the purpose of continuing to promote the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho", Mr. Bui Trung Hieu emphasized that the tournament is also the strongest form of propaganda and introduction to promote the local basketball practice movement, meeting the needs of the masses to enjoy culture and sports.
In addition, promote and introduce to friends and tourists about the tourism potential, homeland and people of Gia Lai.
The 2025 National U16, U18 3x3 Basketball Championship will end on August 10.
