Mid-term review conference of Project 938, Summary of the 'Godmother' program for the period 2021 - 2025

BDK.VN - On the afternoon of June 13, 2025, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Women's Union (VWU) held a mid-term review conference of Project 938, summarizing the "Godmother" Program and a series of activities in response to Vietnamese Family Day. Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Thanh Lam, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Be Muoi and representatives of leaders of departments, branches and organizations of the province attended.

At the program, delegates watched a report on the implementation results of the "Godmother" Program associated with the mid-term review of the implementation of Project 938 in the Women's Union at all levels; presentations and discussions by representatives of the Godmother Program and the implementation results of Project 938 in the provincial Women's Union at all levels.

After launching, the “Godmother” Program has received positive response from 100% of the Association’s bases and affiliated units, many orphans in difficult circumstances have been supported and cared for promptly. The program has spread widely, attracting the attention of all levels, sectors, units, organizations and individuals accompanying the Association.

The Women's Union at all levels has performed well in its role of mobilizing and connecting cadres and women's union members in localities where orphans live and receive sponsorship; connecting and maintaining communication between godmothers and children with many specific and practical ways, based on the realities of each locality, which has initially brought about many remarkable results.

After 5 years of implementation, the Association at all levels has monitored and clearly understood the circumstances of 1,317 orphans in the province, of which 101 were orphaned due to Covid-19. To date, there are 1,228 children, of which 89 have grown up and are sponsored by benefactors; 100% of orphans due to other reasons are in difficult circumstances with a total cost of over 18.6 billion VND.

In addition, the Women's Union at all levels organized the "June 1 Wish" journey of love for 127 orphans in Ba Tri district, sponsored, awarded scholarships and school supplies; coordinated the organization of the Mid-Autumn Festival and gave gifts to 100% of orphans in the area. In particular, with the attention of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, Ben Tre was selected for 3 Mother - Child pairs to participate in the Sunflower Summer Camp in Hanoi , through the activity, creating more motivation for the children to be more confident in life, reducing the pain of losing loved ones due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the conference, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Thanh Lam said that, in recent times, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has constantly innovated the content and methods of operation to suit the reality, creating trust among women of all walks of life; performed well the function of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of women of all walks of life; paid attention to supporting women to improve their capacity and qualifications in all aspects, develop the economy , build happy families; implemented many practical and effective emulation movements with profound humanistic meanings, including the "Godmother" program, Project 938 on propaganda, education, mobilization, and support for women to participate in solving social issues related to women, etc.

In particular, the "Godmother" Program is one of the bright spots of the Women's Union at all levels. In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and natural disasters causing many losses, leaving hundreds of orphans without a place to rely on, the Women's Union at all levels has proactively mobilized, connected and sponsored 1,317 orphans with a total budget of over 19 billion VND.

In the first 6 months of 2025, 9 more orphans in Lao Cai province were adopted by district and provincial officials. These are not only gifts, scholarships, houses,... but more importantly, the spirit of mutual love and support of the nation is promoted; the children receive love, care, and are given more confidence to write more dreams and ambitions to move forward in life.

At the Program, the Provincial Women's Union honored 54 outstanding delegates, including 9 typical collectives and individuals in implementing Project 938, 18 godmothers and 27 typical orphans in the whole province.

On behalf of the Standing Provincial Party Committee, the Standing Deputy Secretary warmly congratulated and commended the exemplary delegates, who are the core, the flowers spreading the values ​​of humanity, the sense of responsibility and the silent but effective contributions of the Association in the whole province.
