Attending the ceremony were the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Agency for Missing Persons, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security , Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam Marc Knapper and leaders of the US MIA Office in Hanoi.

At the ceremony, the Vietnamese agency searching for missing persons handed over four boxes containing remains to the US side.

This is the result of a joint marine excavation activity during the 155th joint search, which took place from May to July 2024 in Khanh Hoa province.

The program took place with the active supervision and support of VNOSMP and the functional forces of Khanh Hoa province.

The remains were examined by Vietnamese and American forensic experts in Da Nang and concluded that they may be related to American soldiers missing in action during the war in Vietnam.

Cooperation in searching for and handing over the remains of US soldiers missing in action during the war in Vietnam was implemented immediately after the Paris Agreement was signed on January 27, 1973.

After more than 50 years, Vietnam has handed over more than 1,000 sets of remains to the US, helping the US identify more than 730 missing soldiers. This humanitarian activity contributes to healing the wounds of war and building trust.

Many times the remains were returned at Da Nang airport.

Previously, on June 26, at Da Nang International Airport, a repatriation ceremony for the remains of US soldiers missing in action in the Vietnam War (MIA) was held. This was the initial result of the 155th joint operation to search for the remains of US soldiers in several central provinces.

Vietnamese and American diplomats both affirmed that promoting cooperation in this field is the best way to heal the wounds of war, contribute to building trust and expand cooperation in many other fields.
